Bio

“I paint the analytical plot of political masterminds…”

For their third release SHANKFIST WRECKAGE TECHNIQUE have teamed up with New York rapper Logan P. McCoy.

Church & State is an evolution of their previous release Preacher, the laid back West Coast bass and widescreen strings replaced by an altogether more ominous soundscape, a post-apocalyptic soundclash of melody and dissonance that prompted DJ FORMAT to comment “yeah, that’s pretty heavy..sounds like some nice left-field Def-Jux stuff!”

Whereas musically, Church & State invokes a bleak dystopia, lyrically it sets its sights on higher planes of consciousness. Logan P.McCoy’s lyrically wordplay is so dense with ideas, it contains more thought than most contemporary rappers’ entire discographies.
A single listen doesn’t give the opportunity to pick apart the multitude of complex lyrical observations. On his inspiration for the song Logan reflects “this piece is the result of a personal realization of a universal truth that has been echoed all through time. Paraphrasing Gandhi’s words, I’m learning that being the change I want to see in the world is the best way to materialize such change.”

“Church & State is a reminder that “they” have all the power because I give it to “them” leaving myself powerless to do anything. Once I realized that, I can affect change buy assuming responsibility, I’ve felt more empowered and hopeful. This is a reminder to stop pointing the finger at “them” because “they” are really me.

Continuing the SHANKFIST WRECKAGE TECHNIQUE tradition of top drawer remixes, the release features thundering bass heavy remixes from DYNASTY and ALIEN HAND. The mutually productive relationship with bassheads DYNASTY has garnered enthusiastic support of FLEX FM stalwarts REDLINE & FEEDBACK and Radio One airplay from HUW STEPHENS. ALEN HAND appears courtesy of the delightful Digital Vomit collective, his remix giving us the only audio insight into what might be occurring inside Joey Barton’s mind.
