"Myspace Artist Highlight"

Meghan Shanley’s MySpace has been resting in one of my numerous open tabs in Firefox since she added us sometime last week. I finally got around to listening to her song samples and was impressed enough to display her in our MySpace Artist Highlight. She lists Nashville as her current home and while her songs have a little more of a pop flair than I like, it’s not anything that isn’t being played on country radio today. That pop flair might actually help her out down the road. She auditioned for this year’s American Idol, but didn’t go through to Hollywood. Randy, Simon, and Paula told her that she was good, but not right for the season. From her profile:
Meghan Shanley is no ordinary aspiring Country Music artist. She is truly gifted, interpreting music by radiating power through her pitch perfect vocals, flawless vibrato, and soulful expression. Her undeniable vocal talent, combined with striking beauty and a dynamic stage presence, set Meghan Shanley apart from the competition. Influenced by Patsy Cline, Bonnie Raitt, Trisha Yearwood and Martina McBride, she sings about the female experience and the struggle to be true to one’s authentic self. Meghan’s vocal stylings produce a cutting edge, modern country sound that is unmistakably her own.

Listen to her song samples and let us know what you think.

Bio

What's one of Meghan's favorite performance memories? "Singing at the wedding reception of Food Network's celebrity Paula Deen. The best part about that gig was that after sound check we were given a tour of her restaurant and I was offered the spoon that iced her wedding cake. And yes, it was the best icing I've ever tasted!" Paula Deen's not the only person who loves Meghan's music. Her powerhouse vocals, sultry style, and soulful expression combined with her infectious personality, make her irresistible to all who find themselves in the audience at one of Meghan’s concerts.
Countless audiences have been wowed by her dynamic stage presence.
At such a young age, Meghan has considerable experience performing for audiences and fans with a diverse mix of age and gender. She has performed at numerous fairs, festivals, conventions, tournaments, USO shows, private events and concerts. She has opened shows for Diamond Rio, Kenny Chesney, Doug Stone, Mark Chestnutt, Chely Wright and Lonestar.
Winning the title of Miss Virginia in 2001 gave Meghan a great taste of life on the road; while traveling over 3,000 miles a month. Fortunately she loved it, and inspired by her faith and the support of her family and friends, Meghan made the decision to leave Virginia and head to Nashville in 2002.
In the years since she has moved to Nashville, she has been featured on Fine Living Network's "The Genuine Article" and a was a surprise guest performer at the wedding reception of Paula Deen which aired on the Food Network in 2005, and continues to air a few times yearly. She sang “Here”, an original song she recorded, and since the show’s airing the song has become a hit with brides nationwide. Most recently, Meghan has been a featured performer in productions of Country Classics: Treasures from the Attic, The Spirit Of Broadway: A Star Spangled Celebration, The Spirit of Christmas, and Dancing Queen, Cruisin Classics: A Night at the Diner, and 6Chix.
