Shannon Cole

Shannon Cole

BandPopRock

Singer/Songwriter from So Jersey. Unique voice and creative and original style of writing. Influences include Joan Jett, Blondie, Michelle Branch, Ashlee Simpson & Sarah McLachlan. Presently peforming in a variety of venues in New York City, Philadelphia, and New Jersey.

Biography

In the past two and a half or so, Shannon has performed over 250 gigs. She has played all of the A Club Venues for independent musicians in Philadelphia including (but not limited to) The Trocadero, Abelines, Grape Street Pub, Club 218, The Chestnut Room and is now focusing on NY/NJ circuit where she has performed at historically known venues such as The Saint, CBGB's, The Lions Den and Kenny's Castways. She recently rocked WMMR's Rock Night Show at Grape Street and is slated to perform again at a WMMR show in May.

When asked to name her major influences, Shannon Cole will respond with names such as Blondie, Michelle Branch, Joan Jett, Sarah McLachlan and Pat Benatar. Cole has combined these influences to create a writing and singing style that is unmistakenly her own. While firmly rooted in pop/rock, she consistently tries to push the boundaries of the genre by interweaving an "old-school" rock approach with more contemporary elements of alternative, punk, emo and other styles of modern pop music.

Fans have described her voice as unique, with a raw emotional power that drives home her lyrics about love, pain, betrayal and friendship. Her high energy live shows keep attracting more and more fans who have been longing for a female artist to finally come along who rocks hard and understands the meaning of "keeping it real." With her hard driving, "kick-ass" guitars, powerful vocals, edgy lyrics and her “old school” approach to rocking onstage and in the studio, Cole is trying to break the “fluff” or “bubble gum” image of the female pop/rock artist.

Shannon is presently working on a full length, independent CD which will be released later this year - with no gimmicks, dance routines or "Maxim"-like photo spreads - just raw talent, honest music and a passion for sharing it. Currently a 9 track CD is available for purchase at performances.

What A Joke!

Written By: Shannon Cole

“What a Joke”

Thought I saw you yesterday
With the one you left me for
Took a deep breath,
headed your way
But what I saw, was so much more
I know she didn’t see me
She was to busy too
But as I moved in closer
I realized it wasn’t you

Ha ha, what a joke
Look at what you left behind
Yeah yeah, She’s a joke
You totally lost your mind

Why would you waste your time?
What void does this fill?
Cause’ you know
when she’s not with you
She givin’ some other guy a thrill

Ha ha, what a joke
You’re still at square one
Yeah yeah, where’s she now?
With someone else having fun

So many months have flown by
And you’re still where
you don’t wanna be
Yet I’ve moved on
and not looked back
I finally get to be the real me
There is no one trying to change me
Or make me something I’m not

You said the distance killed us
It was too hard for you
You wanted something easy
Well there ya go, your wish came true

Haha, what a joke
Yyou thought you could do better
Yeah yeah, you’re the joke
Another hand is up her sweater
Haha, what a joke
Cause’ now that we’re through
Yeah yeah, you’re the joke
Looks like jokes on you
Joke’s on you
Joke’s on you

Haha, what a joke
Yeah yeah, you’re the joke
Haha, what a joke
Looks like the jokes on you

I Am Me

Written By: Shannon Cole

"I Am Me"

I’d walk down the halls
Wondering what people thought
What they thought of me
I would see their faces
And their dirty looks
That’s high school’s reality

Chorus:
I am me
Cause that’s who I am
In case you forgot
I am me
Cause that what I want to be
Don’t expect me to be someone I’m not

I witnessed the drama
That apparently never ends
What an annoying process
You’re mindless torment
I’ve held deep inside
It’s better that way I guess

Chorus:
I am me
Cause that’s who I am
With a smile still on my face
I’m just me
I’ll be laughin’ when we leave this place

::Spoken::
I guess I should thank you
For inspiring me to write about this pain
While you’re still doing nothing
I’ll have the fortune and fame

I’ve known who I am
And I know what I want to be
I’m not seeking your approval
Because I just want, I just want to be me

I’d walk down the halls
Wondering what people thought
What they thought of me
I would see their faces
And their dirty looks
That’s high school’s reality

I am me
Cause that’s who I am
With a smile still on my face
I’m just me
I’ll be laughin’ when we leave this place

I am me
Cause’ that’s who I am
In case you forgot
I am me
Cause’ that’s what I want to be
Don’t expect me to be someone I’m not

The Stranger

Written By: Shannon Cole

“The Stranger”

I close my eyes
And fall into this deep sleep
Escaping in my dreams
Our bodies close
Your gentle touch
It takes me to extremes

Who’s this stranger
that comes to me?
Is this real or a fantasy?

This is all like heaven
With the love that we make
The feeling I have deep inside
May I never awake

Gazing into your eyes
As you lean in for a kiss
This is too good to be true
Our hearts so fast
Skipping a few beats
You wanting me, me wanting you

This is all like heaven
With the love that we make
The feeling I have deep inside
May I never awake

My time is running out
I can feel it getting lighter
Please don’t let go
Hold on to me tighter

Who’s this stranger
that comes to me?

This is all the like heaven
With the love that we make
The feeling I have deep inside
May I never awake

This is all the like heaven
With the love that we make
The feeling I have deep inside
May I never awake

I open my eyes
And begin a new day
I’ll be looking for the stranger
Who took my breath away

Rock & Roll Girlfriend

Written By: Shannon Cole

You walked in the room
and I saw you boy
as I strummed my guitar
You winked at me
and I smiled back
so close and yet so far

What's the matter boy?
Am I making you scared?
Are you weak in the knees?
I catch you watchin'
Baby I'm not stoppin'
You want to see more of me?

I want to be your
Rock & Roll girlfriend
I want to be your
Rock & Roll star
So come and be my
Rock & Roll Boyfriend
And let me be the one
who takes you far

I know you know
that I'm into you
So what is going on
in that head?
Let's get right to the point
You want me so
There's nothing else
that needs to be said

I want to be your
Rock & Roll girlfriend
I want to be your
Rock & Roll star
So come and be my
Rock & Roll Boyfriend
And let me be the one
who takes you far

Come here boy
Let me whisper
something to ya'
You're driving me insane
Come here boy
I know you'll like
what I do to ya'
You'll be screaming my name

I want to be your
Rock & Roll girlfriend
I want to be your
Rock & Roll star
So come and be my
Rock & Roll Boyfriend
And let me be the one
who takes you far

Oh yeah

Green Eyes

Written By: Shannon Cole

I know I shouldn't worry
I know I shouldn't care
I know that you're happy
whenever she's there

I know you, you don't love her
Like how you, you love me
You say she
is nothing
But that's what I don't see

And baby, I wanna believe you
And baby, I wish I just knew
And maybe you'll never realize
That the girl who fell for you
has green eyes

Why do I feel this way?
It puts me in shame
I know I am wrong
it's part of the game

And baby, I wanna believe you
And baby, I wish I just knew
And maybe you'll never realize
That the girl who fell for you
has green eyes

You can call me stubborn
You can call me selfish
You can call me cold
I know, I know, I know, I know
But this isn't me,
you told me before
And I wanna tell you something
once more

Are you listening?
Here we go

Baby, I wanna believe you
Baby, I wish I just knew
And maybe you'll never realize
That the girl who fell for you
has green eyes ...
green eyes
