"Shannon Cole at Abilene"

South Jersey native Shannon Cole takes over Abilene, 429 South St., Phila, tonight.
Haven't heard of her? You will. Take the contemporary, acoustic-infused rock of Michelle Branch, throw in the old-school, power vocals of Pat Benatar, mix in the assertiveness and high-energy of The Donnas, then add a pinch of Sarah McLachlan's vulnerability and depth and you'll start to have a pretty good idea of Cole's music.
The show starts at 9:30 p.m. and $5 gets you in the door for this 21 and over show. For more info, call Abilene at 215-922-2583 or visit www.shannoncolerocks.com

Bio

In the past two and a half or so, Shannon has performed over 250 gigs. She has played all of the A Club Venues for independent musicians in Philadelphia including (but not limited to) The Trocadero, Abelines, Grape Street Pub, Club 218, The Chestnut Room and is now focusing on NY/NJ circuit where she has performed at historically known venues such as The Saint, CBGB's, The Lions Den and Kenny's Castways. She recently rocked WMMR's Rock Night Show at Grape Street and is slated to perform again at a WMMR show in May.

When asked to name her major influences, Shannon Cole will respond with names such as Blondie, Michelle Branch, Joan Jett, Sarah McLachlan and Pat Benatar. Cole has combined these influences to create a writing and singing style that is unmistakenly her own. While firmly rooted in pop/rock, she consistently tries to push the boundaries of the genre by interweaving an "old-school" rock approach with more contemporary elements of alternative, punk, emo and other styles of modern pop music.

Fans have described her voice as unique, with a raw emotional power that drives home her lyrics about love, pain, betrayal and friendship. Her high energy live shows keep attracting more and more fans who have been longing for a female artist to finally come along who rocks hard and understands the meaning of "keeping it real." With her hard driving, "kick-ass" guitars, powerful vocals, edgy lyrics and her “old school” approach to rocking onstage and in the studio, Cole is trying to break the “fluff” or “bubble gum” image of the female pop/rock artist.

Shannon is presently working on a full length, independent CD which will be released later this year - with no gimmicks, dance routines or "Maxim"-like photo spreads - just raw talent, honest music and a passion for sharing it. Currently a 9 track CD is available for purchase at performances.
