Mercy

Mercy *
By Shannon Cutts

Father, I implore you - I don’t know what you know about me
Don’t know what you’ve heard about me in other folks’ prayers
Father, I want to know you - like I’ve never known anyone else
Want to turn my smallness inside out
I want you to own me – trust you to hold me ‘cause

You are the one who found me here in my shame
You looked me in the eye and called me by name
And in my darkest hour you wrapped me in your mercy, in mercy, your mercy

Father, I uphold you as the Awesome and Unknowable
Creator who made everything including me
Father, I want to know why my smallness doesn’t dismay you
Get close enough to somehow view what you see inside me
Want you to guide me ‘cause

You break me and you make me
You hold me and you release me
You love me and you make me
Whole and I’m real
In your arms I’m safe and starting to feel….mercy

When Losing Means Winning You

When Losing Means Winning You
by Shannon Cutts

It's been another hard night in the ring with my questions
Wrestling with sleep and the dark's not a friend
Wishing I had been born an army of one
To take on the world, to lasso the sun
And they're cheering - watching me fall
When I realize you're behind it all

The clock's stopped - no one's keeping score
It's just - just you and me - squared off on the floor
And you're bigger and stronger and I am prepared to lose
When losing means winning you

Bought a lot of armor hoping it'd keep me
Safe in its depths I could finally breathe
Not a big surprise here that it didn't work
When all that it got me is tired and hurt
And I'm wounded from trying to fight off the grace that keeps me alive

The clock's stopped - no one's keeping score
It's just - just you and me - squared off on the floor
And you're bigger and stronger and I am prepared to lose
When losing means winning you
