An emerging artist who has the rare ability to perform across the musical spectrum from Opera to pop repertoire. Her soulful pop sound has been compared to Sia meets Tori Amos. A fiercely talented singer/songwriter, she inspires listeners with her heartfelt melodies and beauty.

Biography

Canadian singer-songwriter ShannonDoe was born into a large Irish family. With the vast prairies at her doorstep, her musical ear was informed during her early childhood years from the pop, rock, psychedelic, and blues that she heard in her home. Her natural connection with these particular genres influenced her more than she realized, as her artistic trajectory sent her well beyond these early influences only to return to them later.

As ShannonDoe grew into a young woman, classical music was all she could think about. Residing in South Western Ontario, she competed in singing competitions, continued her dance, drama, and musical studies at arts school. Although a perfectionist and what you would call a nice girl next door, she was a free spirit and left home at the age of sixteen. Moving all the way to the West Coast a year later to the vastly beautiful landscapes of British Columbia, she auditioned for opera school. She received a Bachelor of Music degree in Voice Performance, toured with her music program throughout Europe, Southeast Asia, and Canada, and studied opera abroad at the famous Mozarteum University of Salzburg.

Travel moved her very being and opened her up to the multitude of creative possibilities. This brought her to the United States, where the famed opera programs and master teachers peaked her curiosity.

Where ShannonDoe has spent time all over the world, it was her time in New York that defined her as an artist and crystallized her vision. A haunting theme kept coming up that she could simply not ignore. She wanted to free her expression from the conventions and constraints of classical music. She wanted to learn how to belt, write songs, and express the more sensual, vulnerable, and progressive side of herself that she knew existed just below the surface.

Currently she is working with American Producer Jake Schaefer in Los Angeles. Their collaboration has brought her songwriting to the recording studio, and the birth of her debut EP. Now living in Venice Beach, she is at home with her musical identity. She continues to sing classical music when a project inspires her, yet maintaining her focus on her personal songwriting. It has an authenticity and beauty that is both refreshing and sweet sultry inspiration.

Her debut release "Little Love Spells" reflects both her soulful and edgy roots, with classical sophistication and deeply sensual presence. It is a marriage between her diverse musical influences, and her deeply personal experiences reflected in the lyrical poems and melodies.

Lyrics

YOU

Written By: Shannon Doe

You build me up
You break me down
You keep me strong
When life’s moved on
You showed me love when I had doubts
I’d make it through these stormy ‘bouts

I know you’ve been walking alone
I too lost all I’d known

I once was lost
Then we were found
My heart sang true with love so new
Afraid to be without the need
That’s how it goes
When someone knows

So you’ve been walking alone
I too lost all I’d known
We could be unbound
From these fears unsound

What can I tell you?
How far we’re going
Waiting in shadows
My eyes bright and shining
Who we could be
Awoken from dreaming
My heart for the taking
Your moon girl is waiting

The door is open
I know where I’m going
Lost dreams and blues
No longer true
I showed you love
When you had doubts
You’d make it through
Life’s stormy ‘bouts

I know you’ve been walking alone
I too lost all I’d known
We could be unbound
From these fears unsound

We could be unbound
From these fears unsound…

Amber

Written By: Shannon Doe

He says: I want her, she says: don’t try.
Knowing about love, I’m feeling so shy.

The sweet scent of amber is making me high.
You’re tempting my torn heart, but I might comply.

I’m chasing the feeling, I’ve always been wondering,
How could I ever be swept up by someone?
When I still feel lost love, though I know we're through...

I wish I could tell you the things on my mind.
I’m shy and I’m broken from a heart left behind.

It seems that I want you, perhaps you could be,
a sweet amber lover devoted to me.

Believe in this moment, darlin’ I’ll try. Let go of this aching, that’s torn through my pride. They say it will hurt less once time passes by.
This lingering scent has opened my eyes.

I'’m chasing the feeling, I’ve always been wondering.
How could I ever be swept up by someone?
When I still feel lost love, though I know we're through...

But I’ll wait a moment, no lost circumstance:
to re-mend my torn heart, so we’ll have a chance.

No Use

Written By: Shannon Doe

Not sure why I’m here, but the skies aren’t crying.
It’s finally warm and clear, so blue...so blue...
The deserts quiet breath, my hope is sparing.
Displaced without a warning from you, from you....

No rushing waves to feel alive. Instead we hide in hazy skies.
When all is lost we stay inside. There is no use in shallow pride.

I didn’t mean to bring you fears concerning.
I need a quiet moment, without time, time.
The versions told to keep our thoughts from burning.
My memories gently fade away, away...

No rushing waves to feel alive. Instead we hide in hazy skies.
When all is lost we stay inside. There is no use in shallow pride.

This place I could call home is getting stranger.
There’s nothing calm and clear about this wager.
A little time will bring decisions major.
I left without a message, I ask no favors.

When I see you the night is waiting.
Just take my warning, no use in crying.
I’ll use my cunning, no harm in trying.
The worst is over, my wounded darling.

It doesn’t help to say you’re lost with worries.
This troubled time will see us through.
I see the light peer through the desert shadows.
I’ve found a way to make it through.

No rushing waves to feel alive, instead we hide in hazy skies.
When all is lost we stay inside.
There is no use in shallow pride. There is no use in shallow pride.
