BandAmericanaSinger/Songwriter

"Shantel is a bold and rare talent in a sea of predictability. It's only a matter of time before everyone else catches on. I'll be happy to say "I knew her when". She is no diamond in the rough, this one is polished and ready to go." Katie Cook, CMT Host

Biography

In 2007, American Songwriter Online said, “Shantel is a hidden treasure in Nashville. Producers have come and gone throughout her life and no one captured the essence of her voice like a piano and a microphone in a smoke-filled bar. She writes more than the truth, and says what most of us are definitely too scared to say. One thing is certain; her future in music will not be determined by the music industry itself. It will be determined by the people’s ability to find her.”

Shantel Grace is a farmer’s daughter from Kansas. Unlike most artists walking the streets of Broadway searching for a record deal, Shantel writes about the injustices of today’s American farmers, the truth about poverty in rural America, and in her latest poetic collection, she discovers life’s uncertainties in the ultimate story of love and heartbreak. Never the cookie-cutter commercial country singer, Shantel made a name for herself in the alt/country acoustic rock scene. Her fans include record label executives from some of the major record labels in Nashville and Los Angeles, not to mention thousands of music lovers around the world.

After a period of introspection, Shantel began honing her musicianship by jamming in after-hours bars and writers venues showcasing her talents from Nashville to San Francisco. Her melancholy tone, complete with acoustic piano, guitar and her three piece band, proved a success in Nashville and on the road.

With over 6,000 downloads in one day, “Can’t get you off my mind” was one of Myspace.com’s most downloaded songs from a new artist in 2007. Tracks from her most recent record release “Pawn Shop Guitar”, have been placed in independant films, commercials and album compilations around the globe. Shantel gained digital distribution through INgrooves, Inc. in 2006, and is being distributed through iTunes, eMusic, Rhapsody, Starbucks, Walmart.com, AOL, Yahoo!, and Amazon among many others. Shantel also recently signed with film/tv distriubtion services, MusicSupervisor.com.

Setting out on an acoustic tour in the fall of 2008 proves Shantel’s ability to keep pushing the limits of her writing and musical penmanship. While promoting her newest album release, Pawn Shop Guitar, Shantel plans to release her sixth studio album in the Spring of 2009.

In addition to her music, Shantel is the owner and designer of a successful jewelry company called, Fashion with Compassion www.designsbyshantel.com.

12 Step Plan

Written By: Richard Trest

I’ve got a 12 step plan for getting over you
Number one I’ve got to lose this tattoo
That’s gonna hurt but I can do
If it leads me to number two

I’m giving back the keys to our front door
Tell the postman I don’t live here no more
Number 3 is gonna set me free
When I leave behind this diamond ring

Number four, no four on the floor of this little blue truck
I can’t drive no more
Number five says I’ve gotta try to forget
Those deep brown eyes

I’ve got a 12 step plan for getting over you
Look here I’ve done made it half way through

Number 6 I’m gonna look and find a book that’ll teach this lonely girl to cook
Seven were the numbers on the phone we shared now I’ve got to change them everywhere

Number 8, new forks and new plates but I know its you I can’t replace
If I could keep from losing my mind, I might make it to number 9

I’ve got a 12 step plan for getting over you
Number nine I’m gonna buy some brand new shoes
And they’ll help me walk away from you if they’ll take me to 10 I just might pull through

Number 10 I’ll go to work again cause the boss man says I can’t call in
Eleven I’ll walk straight through hell if itll take me to number 12

I’ve got a 12 step plan for getting over you but you know its something I can’t do
I keep losing count of where I am
Number 12 I want you back again

A Change is Gonna Come

Written By: Shantel Grace

I watched him walking out across the land When the banker came and took everything that he had
Took his truck, took his cattle back, everything but his cowboy hat
You could see the feel of failure in his eyes, but someday my people will fight, we’re gonna rise up

This is for the cause, this is for the truth this is for the people even the ones who lose

I’m so tired of a picture that’s been painted All these lies that have all been fabricated It’s in the movies It’s on the TV but it’s all wrong
Here the truth is, it’s a reality, it’s in this song A Change is gonna come

She said I’m sorry that’s all I have today As she packed her groceries he took the bread away
Took her milk took her baking dish, everything but her grocery list
You could see the feel of failure in her eyes But someday my people will fight, we’re gonna rise up

This is for the cause this is for the truth this is for the people
Even the ones who lose

I’m so tired of a picture that’s been painted
All these lies that have all been fabricated
It’s in the movies It’s on the TV but it’s all wrong
Here the truth is, it’s a reality, it’s in this song
A Change is gonna come

I’m so tired of a picture that’s been painted
All these lies that have all been fabricated
It’s in the movies It’s on the TV but it’s all wrong
Here the truth is, it’s a reality, it’s in this song
A Change is gonna come

For What It's Worth

Written By: Buffalo Springfield

There's something happening here
What it is ain't exactly clear
There's a man with a gun over there
Telling me I got to beware
I think it's time we stop, children, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down
There's battle lines being drawn
Nobody's right if everybody's wrong
Young people speaking their minds
Getting so much resistance from behind
I think it's time we stop, hey, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down
What a field-day for the heat
A thousand people in the street
Singing songs and carrying signs
Mostly say, hooray for our side
It's time we stop, hey, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down
Paranoia strikes deep
Into your life it will creep
It starts when you're always afraid
You step out of line, the man come and take you away
We better stop, hey, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down
Stop, hey, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down
Stop, now, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down
Stop, children, what's that sound
Everybody look what's going down

Who's Gonna Save Us

Written By: Shantel Grace

Pockets full of pennies dollars and dust
Doesn't really matter when we let those pennies rust

People buying diamonds and 60" tv screens
While children are dying of poverty and disease

Who's gonna save us when can't save ourselves
Who's gonna make us wake up and lend a little help

We need somebody who will take responsibility
we need somebody who will
Ease the suffering

The temperature is a rising and gasoline too
Politicians lying to cover up the truth

We're still killing god's creatures for the price of their skins
Wearing bloodstained fur coats for no reason.

Who's gonna save us when we can't save ourselves
Who's gonna makeus wake up and lend a little help

We need somebody who will take responsibility
We need somebody who will ease the sufferring

Give the boy a gun, and he'll hunt you down
Take the gun away and you'll put him in the ground

War around the world War on the streets
Farmers going hungry too poor to eat

Who's gonna save us when we can't save ourselves
Who's gonna make us wake up and lend a little help

We need somebody who will take responsibility
We need somebody who will ease the suffering

Now I don't have the answers but I know this is true
Everyone has a purpose and that includes you

Someone has to stand up for basic humanity
And together we'll rise up and ease the suffering

cause who's gonna save us when we can't save ourselves
Who's gonna make us wake up and lend a little help
We need somebody who will take a step for humanity
We need somebody who will ease the suffering

Pour One More For Me

Written By: Shantel Grace

If you ain’t ever had it bad don’t talk to me
If you ain’t ever felt sad well I’m sorry
Cause this one’s for my friends the ones just like me
We’ve been through hell so many times
And now we’re ready to leave
So cheers to the tears in the bottle of wine we’re giving em away for free
Open up another and pour a little more for me

I’ll raise my glass It’s full of wine
It tastes just like the day when everything felt fine
This is for my friends the ones just like me
We’ve been through hell so many times we’re ready to leave
This one’s for Jenny and mr. Stevenson
This one’s for my sister and Helen Newman
This one’s for my mother and this one’s just for Tim
So cheers to the tears in the bottle of wine we’re giving em away for free
Open up another and pour a little more for me

If you’ve been struck three times and came back for more
If you just laughed when somebody said “when it rains it pours”
What they don’t know is the hurricane…it tried to take your soul
But the wind and the rain couldn’t take away the part of you that gave you hope

I’ll raise my glass It’s full of wine
It tastes just like the day when everything felt fine
This is for my friends the ones just like me
We’ve been through hell so many times we’re ready to leave
This one’s for Jenny and mr. Stevenson
This one’s for my sister and Helen Newman
This one’s for my mother and this one’s just for Tim
So cheers to the tears in the bottle of wine we’re giving em away for free
Open up another and pour a little more for me

Pawn Shop Guitar

Written By: Shantel Grace

I’m kind of like a pawn shop guitar
Full of stories and songs, just hanging on a wall
Would you like to take me home with you
I can see your fingers strumming on my strings sir,
Would you like to take me home

Every once-in-a-while when I’m feeling blue
Someone picks me up and puts me back in to tune
And for a minute or two when they start a song
It reminds me of you and no how you’re long gone

Yeah I’m kind of like a pawn shop guitar
Full of stories and songs, just hanging on a wall
Would you like to take me home with you
I can see your fingers strumming on my strings sir,
Would you like to take me home

If you decide to take me home
I’ll play you melodies like you’ve never known
But don’t be surprised if I break a string
Cause someone stripped my steel when they traded me in

I’m kind of like a pawn shop guitar
Full of stories and songs, just hanging on a wall
Would you like to take me home with you
I can see your fingers strumming on my strings sir,
Would you like to take me home

Like a Real Good Woman Should

Written By: Shantel Grace

I’ve got a penny..gonna throw it down
I’ve got a wish in my pocket gonna take it out
Gonna roll em in my hand then watch em hit the ground
Gonna risk it all in this wishing well I found

I’m ready I’m ready
To say I was wrong
I’m sorry I’m sorry
But don’t punish me too long…baby
I love you I love you
Like I said I would
I’m gonna love you boy like a real good woman should

I bought a new black dress I’m gonna put it on
Bought a new bottle of wine I’m gonna open it up
I’ll pull out an old record and I’ll put it on
Gonna walk up that stairway gonna show you my love

I’m ready I’m ready
To say I was wrong
I’m sorry I’m sorry
But don’t punish me too long…baby
I love you I love you
Like I said I would
I’m gonna love you boy like a real good woman should

I’m ready I’m ready
To say I was wrong
I’m sorry I’m sorry
But don’t punish me too long…baby
I love you I love you
Like I said I would
I’m gonna love you boy like a real good woman should
