Biography

Shapeshifter 3 is a new sound from Whitefish that is on the cutting edge of the Montana music scene. Like the name implies, Shapeshifter 3’s sound takes on many forms, and the jazz roots of the group spread wide under an improvisational landscape, as they fuse their synth-core rawness with spacey electronica, and body-moving funk grooves.

Shapeshifter 3's improvisational lust leads to many different kinds of sets, as witnessed by the variety of bands that they have opened for, including the Dirty Dozen Brass Band, Signal Path, Crown City Rockers, the Motet, MFA, Papa Mali, and Eleven Eyes.

Since their formation in 2005, the quartet continues to hit the West Coast and the Rocky Mountains, from Seattle to Phoenix to Denver.

If other bands or influences were used to compare the sound, it would be the result of putting the New Deal, Trans Am and Medeski, Martin and Wood in an audio blender.
