SHAPIRO

Mississauga, ON native Shapiro is a new artist on the come up. I recently got introduced to him by way of just connecting through mutual friends in the city of Toronto. One thing I liked about Shapiro’s attitude when I met him is the fact that he’s confident, smart, and business minded. These are traits that I find add so much value in today’s music industry. In fact, he’s working with some of the most decorated artists and producers in the music industry which we’ll share more about soon.

My favourite track from Shapiro would probably be either ‘As a Man’ or ‘Got Up’ – Shapiro’s flow, cadence, songwriting, puts him toe to toe with any Toronto artist in the city. That’s just my opinion – and I believe it.

Mississauga’s Shapiro (commonly styled as S H A P I R O) returns with his new “Cruise Control” EP. Like its name suggests, this project is perfectly equipped for night drives, his slowburn melodies and cool raps are brought to life over the well selected brooding and bassy instrumentals, giving it that late night whipable status. Shapiro’s husky voice un-surprisingly is capable of delivering hard bars, but he’s got an unsuspecting penchant for memorable melodic delivery, heard on tracks like “Lately” & “Excuses/ Useful”. Over the 8 song run time, Shapiro balances between those 2 styles well, resulting in a well rounded and polished effort.

Shapiro and bndz come together to form Out Here Daily and release their debut single titled ‘Out Here Daily’ produced by Txpski. While I’m not familiar with bndz yet, I think Shapiro ranks as one of Toronto’s most under rated rappers, especially with the bars, so any pairing with him has me excited. Hopefully we get some more heat soon, but for now you can listen to the - 6TRACK

Shapiro caps off the year by dropping a hot new track titled ‘Marty’ produced by ClutchBoy. Per usual, he delivers hard bars through equally tough delivery that have me wondering why he isn’t been championed by the ‘real rap’ fans of Toronto that I hear so often. I mean the obvious answer to that is the people who complain about rap on the internet are the same ones who don’t go out of their way to find the ‘real shit’ they talk about, but I’m confident eventually people will catch on. - 6TRACK
