Sharkmuffin are one of the more popular garage punk bands in the Brooklyn music scene, and essential listening for fans of Screaming Females. There's a certain '90s feel to the music they make, driven by demanding but never desperate hollers. - Billboard Magazine
Sharkmuffin are either the most glam garage band around, or the grungiest glam band around. The Brooklyn trio of Tarra Thiessen, Natalie Kirch and Sharif Mekawy (with former Hole drummer Patty Schemel) deliver their music mostly in the form of brief, rollicking, feminist firecrackers. Sharkmuffin self-describes as "noise punk meets psychedelic power pop" — and while the pop shimmer isn't readily visible on the band's debut album, Chartreuse, it's coated thick on the beachy vocals of "Mondays," which we're premiering here.
"Mondays" is all forward motion and shredding guitar line, but it doesn't topple into chaos. The band kicks down the song's doors in its opening riff, sends a fierce message of dismissal to their unfortunate subject, and leaves their amps hot after two and a half minutes. It'd leave you breathless if you weren't humming along.

I took the train back to Manhattan in order to catch Sharkmuffin’s set at (Le) Poisson Rouge. On record, Sharkmuffin’s impact is dry and immediate, ideal atmospheric conditions for heavy garage rock; on Tuesday night their songs seemed smoky, elastic and multi-dimensional, guitars curving spectrally out of a muscular darkness that issued from the bass guitar and drums. “This song is about a bad Tinder date,” said guitarist and singer Tarra Thiessen. “If you’re on a bad Tinder date right now, you should dance.” Almost no one danced, though some unconsciously swayed. - The Guardian

Brooklyn based garage rock trio Sharkmuffin creates super-heavy, jagged, and exceedingly catchy punk rock, which recently was named by Billboard as being one of the “20 All-Female Bands You Need to Know”. Experienced guitarist Tarra Theissen (vocals/guitar) and Natalie Kirch (vocals/bass) jammed in punk paradise Asbury Park in 2012 and have continued to play together since. After two powerful EP’s and a self-titled 7”, Sharkmuffin have released their debut LP Chartreuse on Little Dickman/State Capital Records.
The noise-punk-meets-psychedelic power pop group has evolved their sound on the new album working with drummer Patty Schemel (Upset, Death Valley Girls, Hole). The result is a full length filled with ten tracks of commanding hits. “Chartreuse is mine and Natalie’s favorite color, but it’s also a liqueur whose recipe is only known by two monks, and each monk only knows half the recipe and has to keep it a secret,” Thiessen tells Flavorwire. “All the tracks are really bright, in your face, and obvious like the color, but all lyrically deal with relationship dynamics involving things that for better or worse were hidden from each other.”
