Biography

Born an only child to my only parents and raised in Sydney. Forced to make life changing decisions from a very young age – like whether to play with my Smurf collection or build a cubby house out of lounge cushions - I grew up very quickly. It soon became clear I was born in the wrong era and to this day I curse my parents for not having me earlier so I could have gone to Woodstock. Disgruntled and disillusioned with the world I got on my tricycle and decided to skip town. Unfortunately one of the wheels fell off my and I only ever made it as far as the garage. Eventually I accepted I would be growing up in the 80s and knew I would need to get myself a pair of pink lycra tights if I was ever going to make it through. It was about this time I picked up the guitar for the first time …then I realised it wasn’t mine so I put it back down again. Now I have my own guitar and things are a lot less complicated but I will never understand how shoes get on power lines.

Lyrics

Without you I'm Sober

Written By: Sharlene Rainford

Without you I’m sober
Capo 8th fret Am, C/G, G

Wake up in a room
Where you don’t know where you are
With your heart being played like the strings on my guitar
Hey you, is it gonna be another one of those days
When your ship is sinking but the world thinks your ok

Hey you, hey you when you open your eyes
You know I’ll be gone and there won’t be no time for goodbyes

When you find yourself caught between heaven and hell
There’s a chance you could be in love with the devil himself
You’re hiding, you’re hiding from yourself in the dark
And you hide so well you don’t know where you are

Hey you, hey you when you open your eyes
You know I’ll be gone and there won’t be no time for goodbyes
Hey you is it gonna be another one of those days
When your ship is sinking but the world thinks your ok

Hey you hey you when you open your eyes
You know I’ll be gone and there won’t be no time for goodbyes
Hey you it doesn’t have to be another one of those days
Cos when your ship comes in, I’ll be an ocean away

Mad Harry

Written By: Sharlene Rainford ("Charli")

There's voices talking over me
Tie these tongues together
There's no place in this world
for me
A slave beneath the weather

A face pressed up against the glass
The saftey of a window
Kindly look the other way
Point and shoot, shoot and laugh

Downside
Upside down

The conversation's getting loud
They don't like the score
It's the order of the day
To not make sense no more

Downside
Upside down

Same as it ever was
Same as it ever was

There's bodies walking over me
Bind these feet, these hands
There's a face behind every mask
There's a life behind every man

Downside
Upside down
Downside
Upside down

Same as it ever was
Same as it ever was
Same as it ever.....

Christmas in a Cage

Written By: Sharlene Rainford (Charli)

Crouching in the corner
My life goes flashing by
Nothing left but hours
Tonight I’m gonna die
How did I get here
How did I get here

The guard in all his armour
He’s just a lonely man
He says: have you any last requests
I’ll do the best I can

I said: pray for me
Pray for me
Pray for me
Pray for me

I close my eyes and try hard
To picture your face
But there’s only butterflies in razor wire
In this unfortunate place
How did I get here
How did I get here

The halls are never decked out
With boughs of holy
Not a single yuletide carol
will ever fill the air

So pray for me
Pray for me
Pray for me
Pray for me

Or there’s a long blind queue that stretches
right out my door so join the end
Or there’s a long blind queue that stretches
right out my door so join the end

I’m sitting on my hands now
To stop them shaking
In this my home of concrete and steel
A world so god forsaken
Where would I be now
Where would I be now

So thank you for your letters
And your sincerity
And thank you Mr Arthur Brown...

Pray for me
Pray for me
Pray for me
Pray for me

Or there’s a long blind queue that stretches right out my door so join the end
Or there’s a long blind queue that stretches right out my door now goodbye my friends

Brave Town

Written By: Sharlene Rainford (Charli)

Been away
all this time
Only bad news
Brings me back

Seven white lilies
Hole in the ground
Torn and tongue tied
Dressed in black

Nothing’s changed
‘cept the river’s dry
A blistered plane
A warm July

Blood of God
Bones of steel
A farmer’s pride
A soldier’s grace

A calloused hand
A rolled up sleeve
A brother’s arm
A long embrace

And I know I’m in Brave Town

Brave Town
Brave Town
Is home for me

Brave Town
Brave Town
Is home for me

And I’ve come to the right place

A blessing cast
Toward the sky
Moonshine pours
across the ground
over the old man’s grave
Let’s drink to him till the sun goes down

Raise your glass now
Raise it up real high
Raise your glass now
Keep comin back my way

Brave Town
Brave Town
is home for me

Brave Town
Brave Town
is home for me

And I’ve come to the right place
And I’ve come to the right place
