Bio

Born and raised in the North End of Boston, Sharon (Ozelis) DiFronzo knew somewhere around the age of 4 that she wanted to sing. Even at such a tender age, she was totally captured by music and the way it affected her. She’d spend almost her entire allowance on music, running to the local music store (Tosi's) every week, and then would listen for hours at a time to her favorite artists including Barbra Streisand, Linda Ronstadt, Karen Carpenter, and various Motown artists. This wide range of influences has played a major role in the development of the diverse and soulful vocal style Sharon is known for today.

When she was 9, Sharon first appeared on stage at the North Bennett Street Industrial School’s theater production of "Cinderella", in a small role. This soon led to leading roles she’d play in various musicals throughout her childhood and teens, including "Wizard of Oz", "Oliver", "South Pacific" and "Guys and Dolls" in North
End theater groups. She fondly reminisces about those experiences, calling them the best moments of her childhood and beyond, as well as the building blocks of her career.

In her late teens, her desire to perform pop music led Sharon to join her first band, “Aspirations” (led by the Gennari Brothers of the North End who went on to form “Street Magic”). Since then, she has performed regularly with various groups, including jazz great Al Vega, throughout New England at special events, functions and nightclubs, which also included a 15-year run as lead singer of the popular Boston band, "Mirror Image". Other highlights of Sharon’s live performances have been those at The Esplanade, the Boston Garden/Fleet Center singing anthems for the Celtics & The Harlem Globetrotters, and The Paradise Nightclub in Boston. She continues to perform regularly in restaurants and at private functions throughout Metro Boston and beyond, as well as studio jingles. You can currently hear her singing the “Rite Window” jingle, one of many she has recorded.

Speaking of Recording…….approximately 15 years ago, Sharon incorporated her life-long love for writing poetry into her career as she turned to songwriting. The hard work she has put into developing her skills has proven to be well worth it, as it has enhanced her career, as well as giving her opportunities to work on various original and cover recording projects. As a recording artist and a published songwriter, Sharon has had singles released on both Boston and Canadian-based labels, receiving airplay in Boston, Canada and many European countries. The positive feedback from these releases played a vital role in encouraging her to record a full length CD, her debut self-titled album, filled with 12 songs she co-wrote. She is now in the process of recording her second CD, which is one of tributes to artists and songs she has always loved and wanted to record, hopefully to be completed mid to late 2012.

A few years back, Sharon was named one of Magic 106.7’s “Exceptional Women” and was interviewed on the well known radio show about the making of her debut CD and the meaning behind it. Briefly, she dedicated the CD to, and a special song she wrote in memory of her late brother, whose dying wish was to have his sister record an album. That CD has brought many wonderful people into Sharon’s life which she attributes to her brother’s “divine intervention”.

When you listen to Sharon sing, you’ll easily be able to tell that those early influences have left their mark on this versatile artist. You’ll also hear that she delivers her songs with the confidence and ease of the seasoned performer she has become over the years. But perhaps most importantly, you will know that every word is coming from the heart of someone who truly feels what she sings, and who really wants you to feel it too. Having the ability to touch people is what matters most to Sharon, and she regards this as a precious gift.

As far as what lies ahead, Sharon’s goal is to keep growing as an artist, keep performing at new venues, and meet some amazing people, both musicians and audience members, that she can share her talents with… until, as she says…. “her vocal chords no longer work”…….. she and her fans are hoping that’s a long way off. For the past year and a half, Sharon has been the headliner on Thursday nights at The Encore Lounge (theater district), Boston. -End-Bio.
