Sharon’s original songs are full of those things most people never even glimpse, much less think deeply about. I imagine all the experiences of your life have given you words no one else has. They touch me, they almost hurt, but they are real and the music makes them go down easier.

Biography

Sharon has been singing for as long as she can remember, and received her first guitar for Christmas while in the sixth grade. That set the stage (so to speak!) for Sharon's exposure to the folk music tradition and singer songwriter styles. Some of her influences include: Joni Mitchell, John McCutcheon, Arlo Guthrie, Alison Krauss, Gillian Welch, Iris Dement, Lucy Kaplanski, Woody Guthrie, Bob Dylan, Jean Ritchie, Pete Seeger, and Bill Monroe. So, not surprisingly, traditional folk, singer-songwriter, gospel, spirituals and traditional Celtic music, have all found their way into Sharon's original songs, which draw from personal experience and observations of life going on around her. A true believer in the value of sharing music and introducing it to new listeners, Sharon created and managed a folk-infused singer/songwriter concert series in the Chicago area for nearly a decade. Through that opportunity, she met and presented an array of talent from across the country, and became most appreciative of -- and deeply inspired by -- the highly talented and hardworking singers, songwriters, instrumentalists, and teachers who reside right in her own backyard.

Sharon’s a happy gal when playing, singing, songwriting, and learning about and sharing music with others. She performs regularly with the band, BIRDY alongside Bianca Bevard, Meg Thomas and Roy McNaughton, collaborates with others and performs as a soloist. And she can throw down a harmony vocal like nobody's business!

For further inspiration, as well as opportunities to be engaged in great projects with great people, Sharon paints, shoots photos, designs (anything from prints to room interiors), rides her trail bike, rock climbs, hikes in the woods, and is active in environmental initiatives...and doubts she'd be able to survive without Burt's Bees lip balm.

(I Wish I Could) Sleep Through the Night

(I Wish I Could) Sleep Through the Night
By Sharon Speziale

I watch over you as your quiet and still
Keeping a warmth in my heart
The night swirls around and unsettled I’m found
A chill comes and then it departs.

Morning, my dear, is ‘round the corner
Waiting to grasp me again
Ready to share all the love it’ll dare
Will I see it, so free and so clear?

Chorus
With these songs in my head that won’t leave me alone
The stars in the sky point away from my home
I’m restless and tired, a long way to dawn
Oh, I wish I could sleep through the night

The sun at the break of a new day
Brings promise and hope to my soul
I’ll embrace it, yet still as night’s memories will
Stay with me and they’re taking their toll.

Chorus
With these songs in my head that won’t leave me alone
The stars in the sky point away from my home
I’m restless and tired, a long way to dawn
Oh, I wish I could sleep through the night.

At Least For Now (Fronts)

At Least For Now (Fronts)
By Sharon Speziale

She has struggled to feel good long enough
Solid footing is a thing of foreign nature
Aggressive competition seems to be a good way out
So she offends, hurts others feelings just to win.

Chorus
An attempt to connect
Wanting love, wanting life to be easier than it is most days
Caught inside, trouble bound, at a loss, nothing found
Oh, the words they won’t come out right, at least for now.

He is lonely, getting old and on his own
It’s hard to hear and missing out, unbearable.
Fear turns to a sense of knowing all there is to know
And sharing much too loudly pushes us away.

Chorus
An attempt to connect
Wanting love, wanting life to be easier than it is most days
Caught inside, trouble bound, at a loss, nothing found
Oh, the words they won’t come out right, at least for now.

She is young and newly married to the wrong man
Her love of books and numbers keeps her safe.
Forming simple sentences eludes her
And she finds that hugs are really hard to give and take.

Chorus
An attempt to connect
Wanting love, wanting life to be easier than it is most days
Caught inside, trouble bound, at a loss, nothing found
Oh, the words they won’t come out right, at least for now.

Oh, the words they won’t come out right, at least for now.

Three O'Clock

Three O’Clock
By Sharon Speziale

Silver sky is easy on my eyes
As I walk down the wooded path with you.
The sun alone doesn’t warm a frozen soul;
I need your arms and your heart all around me.

Water color light in orange and purple,
Wash over darkness of the trees that fall against
Empty canvas clouds in winter’s quiet way.
I find peace; this is my favorite time of day.

Walking side by side in quiet;
No words as we share our thoughts alone.
Magic days of winter’s waning,
Phase into a season of beginning once again.

Silver sky is easy on my eyes
As I walk down the wooded path with you.
Magic days of winter’s waning,
Phase into a season of beginning once again.
