Bio
Singer/songwriter Shava Jay is known for her enthusiastic personality, profound vocal ability and dynamic writing skills. With drive and determination, she managed to escape the wicked streets of Flint, Michigan. Like a rose growing up from concrete, Shava Jay blossomed into something amazing. She has transformed from young girl to young woman. Humbly, I introduce you to the calm and mellow sounds of Shava Jay. Shava Jays influences are Donny Hathaway, Lauryn Hill, Mary J Blige, and Tweet just to name a few. Shava Jay is a firm believer that what you want, you will have; all it takes is drive, determination and faith.
She started out performing on the campus of Wilberforce University, doing gospel music, music from the soul, and R&B. She has also been known for her performances all around Michigan and Ohio. Shava Jay is a graduate of Wilberforce University with a degree in Communications. With a nine-year commitment to music, Jay stays faithful and true. Her only obligations at this time are to make a difference in music, the media, and societys perception of what a young woman is supposed to be. She exemplifies this in a new and creative way. She is not at all afraid to speak of them through her music. She feels that music is good for healing and expression. You can find every emotion in her music. No matter what you are looking for, Shava Jays goal is to make music that is timeless. Making music that puts a certain picture in your mind is what she specializes in.
Shava Jay landed herself an internship with the Legion Records, a Hip-Hop Record label on Chicagos north side. Shortly after, Shava Jay landed another internship with SONY&BMG. Without letting SONY or New York City intimidate her, she continued to press forward and learn as much as she could about the business of music. Hearing about the corporate side of the music industry is great, but actually seeing it and being a part of it was more of a challenge however she over came those challenges and continued her journey to the top.
Today Shava has recorded her first underground album titled, Pen, Paper and Lyrics She has performed numerous songs. She written almost every genre of music, featured on many albums and created a dedicated fan base. She continues to take control of the advancement of her music.
