"Minority groups whip up Census participation"

Rap music, free iTunes downloads and smart phone apps are just three of the tools being used to boost minority participation in the 2010 Census.

"An Enigmatic Muse"

Quick! When I say, “Shawna Locey,” you say, “Enigmatic Muse!”
What? Call me crazy, but these are the first words that popped into my mind when listening to her newest release.
Listening to Shawna Locey one gets the sense of being right on the cusp of something big being ready to emerge.
Looking at Shawna you see a young girl with eyes full of innocence and contemplation. However, upon hearing her music you quickly realize this is clearly a full grown woman who is learning and changing through the lessons of life. We get glimpses of her personality through the eye opening “Who wins”, the playful “Let it Flow”, and the sexy duet with Darrius Willrich, “What can I say?”
Lucky for us, Shawna allows us to be part of her metamorphosis into the full-fledged muse-ician she is.

"Shawna Locey on Review"

I will open by saying that Shawna Locey, has proven to be one the great finds in the industry over the last few years. With proven talents as a singer, entertainer, audio engineer and producer, Shawna is by far the most complete artist I have seen in some time. Her songwriting and production firstly, stand out as competent arrangements of both lyric and melody, while she pulls from a palate of sounds that appropriately direct the listeners attention to the essence of the piece. In being a multi-instrumentalist, Shawna moves forward with a command of what she asks of herself and other musicians during the production phase of the project. In the studio, you won’t find many vocalist able to tweek their own eq’s and compressors, navigate production software, and edit their own pre-mixes. In Shawna you have someone who works seamlessly with producers and engineer as an equal, yet differs to the expertise of the previous two, with the clear understanding of the balancing act that is music collaboration. In closing I will return to my opening statement, “Shawna Locey, has proven to be one the great finds in the industry over the last few years”, and I believe you now have a better understanding why!

"Watch out"

Shawna, this girl is bad, her music has this nice funkiness about it. I love it. Shawna combines her love of funk, pop, jazz, rock, and soul music to create a diverse spectrum of sound, and it’s working for her. A sound she pulls off very very well.

Touching on subjects of love, fear, frustration and hope, Shawna gives audiences a very personal look into her life. At Central Washington University on music scholarship, Shawna completed a degree in music education. While refining her technical skills as a teacher and vocalist in college. She began a funk cover band and soon was singing in front of audiences four nights a week. Though Shawna was performing for many people she was ready for a new challenge. Inspired to expand her musical abilities, Shawna began to create her own music. In late 2007, Shawna took her songs to Contact Create Studios to complete her first album. Shawna creates a show packed with entertainment, heart, and quality. I have included my pick Who Wins and the other pick is my son favorite Turned Your Back.

Bio

The music of the Shawna Locey Band combines their love of funk, soul, rock and pop music to create a different sound with each song. Their melodies draw from influences such as Stevie Wonder, Lauren Hill, Jamiroquai and Michael Jackson. The nine-piece band of Seattle pro's pull off each genre and song with dedicated ease, while Shawna's hypnotic stage presence and dance moves captivate you for days. Shawna's versatile and sultry voice gives audiences a very personal look into her life, and her unique song writing abilities give the listener a variety of style and sensation.

In 2008, Shawna Locey exhibited her debut songs with rave reviews. Immediately, she began touring extensively across the world and is working on a broader debut. Meanwhile the band has already begun writing for their next full release. Using their success and devotion to making music, Shawna and the band write for an audience that seeks a powerful role model that embodies true entertainment, heart, and quality.

Shawna's Story:
Shawna Locey was born in Portland, Oregon and at a very young age developed a deep appreciation for music. By the age of three, she began making songs and in elementary school choreographed musicals at recess. In high school, she was captain of the dance team and was a recipient of a unique scholarship inspired by her musical talents. At Mount Hood Community College she was a member of a jazz ensemble that was awarded "Best College Vocal Jazz Album" by 'Down Beat' magazine.

Shawna later transferred to Central Washington University and completed a Bachelors of Arts degree in music education. She also continued her passion for dance as a hip-hop dance instructor and choreographer. Out of college, she taught music in Washington State public schools while pursuing her dream of performing. She began a funk cover band and soon was singing in front of audiences four nights a week. Inspired to create her own music, she made a small studio in her bedroom and taught herself the latest programs in audio engineering. Soon she was writing and recording her first songs independently.

In late 2007, Shawna took her songs to Contact Create Studios to complete her first album. With the help of her friends in the music community, she was able to rerecord and embellish all of her original songs with the talent of many nationally acclaimed musicians. Established players who helped her include: Thaddeus Turner of Maktub and Gerald Turner of the Digable Planets, Bubba Jones of Cherrywine, Mark Cardenas of Morris Day and the Time and Darrius Willrich. Each player added their personal touches to Shawna's songs and helped shape her dynamic production.

Shawna formed her original band and began playing for audiences in January 2008. Instantly the fans latched on and the venues asked for the bands return. Today, Shawna and the band continue to tighten up the set while adding originals and select cover material to round out a great night. Be sure to catch the band soon at their next performance near you!
