Bio
My name is Shawn Gunter. I'm an independent musician, working hard, rejecting musical confinement, and starving to build myself a career in the passion of my dreams.
I started playing music when I was around the age of nine years old. I began my musical journey on the drums, joining the middle school band percussion and drumline, and continued through high school. I played for the jazz bands frequently and sat in for a lot of bands' drummers, as well as being in a few of my own.
I picked up a guitar about four years ago at a church camp. I played for a few hours, got the hang of it, and bought one when I got home. I began singing a few months later. I started gigging in 2011. I played a bunch of shows and really started feeling a passion for what I was doing. It was clear to me that I was finally on the right path. I applied to the Academy of Contemporary Music at UCO, and spent an amazing two years there, learning most of what I know of the music industry today.
I have been in a few bands since I first picked up a guitar, but had some falling-outs, and discovered I'm most productive on my own. I lost my job in October, and began my album, Better Than Never, the day I became unemployed. With some help from a few awesome friends and fans, I was able to raise enough money to finish the album and pay for the expenses. Now, I've released my first 6-song EP on December 31st, 2014!
It's been an amazing, and unimaginably difficult journey so far. I "work" every day of my life, most hours of the day, pausing to eat(very rarely), and taking a few hours out of my morning for some sleep, after a long night of recording.
It sounds rough, but I've never had so much fun in my life. This is the most incredible thing I've ever done with my life, and I'm overwhelmed with this feeling of drive and passion. I love what I do, but I don't get paid for all the work. My fans are literally my employers, so please, help me stay in business! Pick up the cd when it comes out, buy my singles, but even if you don't have the money, share me with your friends! Post my music, videos, my website! Talk about me with your friends. Every little thing my amazing fanbase does, is crucial to my career, and it really does make the difference.
So, thank you to my wonderful fans.
Sincerely,
Shawn Gunter
