Shawn Lentz

BandRockAcoustic

A progressive americana/acoustic rock smorgasbord garnished with a zero bullshit attitude and a shot of Jager.

Biography

Equal parts ecological conservationist and proud DIY artist, Shawn Lentz refuses to fit into a mold of the typified singer-songwriter. Call it coffee-shop rock or socio-political-enviro pop, but since releasing CONVERGENCE in 2001 "the acoustic pop super-villain's" writing has graduated into sometimes complex, sometimes simple and lush arrangements, with a fiercely, percussive guitar style that has proved to appeal to neo-folk and harder rocking audiences alike.

Look for the new EP, PIECES in the next few months. PIECES is a limited release that features 2 full-band tracks and 3 kick-ass, stripped down solo acoustic tracks; 2 of which will appear on the upcoming full-length CD with full instrumentation. Shawn is currently working with producer, Paul Speer (Vicci Martinez, Roger Fisher, Queensryche), at Rainstorm Studios on the new 11 song disc.

Inside

Written By: Shawn Lentz

Why you typify me?
You can’t even stand on two feet of your own
While you stain the family
With the taste of your bastard seed

Everyday I feel this scream
Inside
Cut these wrists or make me clean
‘Cause it’s more than your words inside me

Your perversion is my misery
My nightmares you own
The feel of your breath and scent on my clothes
But do you really think you can fucking break me?

Everyday I feel this scream
Inside
Cut these wrists or make me clean
‘Cause it’s more than your words inside me

You sold your children
You sold your God
A high price to pay for your contention
Well I’m here to give you back
What you gave to me
A tithe to buy back your redemption

Everyday I feel this scream
Inside
Cut these wrists or make me clean
‘Cause it’s more than your words inside me

Burn

Written By: Shawn Lentz

Maybe
In these times we’ve gone astray
Fibers of a woven truth
Weathered and frayed
Effigies marching roads of rage
The easy part is over
Where do we go from here

If we can’t see
Beyond limitations
This fire we flee
Will only bring us to the point
Where we now stand
In these days when everybody owes somebody something
Do we drift away
Or do we burn

Burdened eyes
Appear unkind
But dissonance that divides
Decays the mind

If we can’t see
Beyond limitations
This fire we flee
Will only bring us to the point
Where we now stand
In these days when everybody owes somebody something
Do we drift away
Or do we burn

Maybe
In these times we’ve gone astray
Fibers of a woven truth
Weathered and frayed
And effigies condemned to roads that stray
Consumed by misguided legacies
They have stories to tell

If we can’t see
Beyond limitations
This fire we flee
Will only bring us to the point
Where we now stand
In these days when everybody owes somebody something
Do we drift away
Or do we burn

Maybe
One day we’ll find our way

The Well

Written By: Shawn Lentz

Sometimes I feel the cold steel
Of memories that shackle
Why so hard to let go
“Bring it down boy”
She said, “ya gotta bring it down”

Angel’s wings only carry you so far
You must go some distance for yourself
When the well runs dry

Where the pavement ends
That’s where I want to go
What is there?
What is here?
Destination reached
Will it lack the things that I’ve been dreaming

You don’t need to show me
What I’ve been shown
And you don’t need to tell me
Wisdom already known
What will quench our thirst?
When the well runs dry

Walk with me
And show me what I’ve not been shown
You teach me
Wisdom I couldn’t find on my own
What will quench our thirst?
When the well runs dry

Collage

Loss for time
Time to feel the meagerness around me
12 years ago I lost my mind
Trivial? I pity misunderstanding

And I couldn’t wait to be free
‘Cause nothing’s changed around here
And through the toil
Your tough love sowed seeds of wither
Yet unknown
Hard as stone

He’s fallen blind
She shakes and stares
A bed-post reverie
Liquid love and razor-wire that binds
Typical, let’s keep it in the family

Sun don’t shine on these streets
‘Cause nothing’s changed around here
And through the toil
Tough love couldn’t save you
From a hunger that feeds off your own

And when shades are drawn tightly
Fault finds fallen innocence

Sun don’t shine on these streets
‘Cause nothing’s changed around here
And through the toil
Your tough love sowed seeds of wither
Yet unknown
Sun don’t shine on these streets
‘Cause nothing’s changed around here
And through the toil
Tough love couldn’t save you
From a hunger that feeds off your own

Minor Hero

Written By: Shawn Lentz

Privilege of power
Dime-store swag
Just waiting for the steal
Your intention will be your downfall
Man, it will be the Achilles’ Heel

Long time coming
Boy your better pray, better not sway
Boy your better instigate some kind of feelin’
Kickshaw’s or gewgaws
Put you on your shelf
Along with the other soulless figurines

So brief
The quintessential jester leads us to the fall
We will see
We’ll see a minor hero won’t stand tall

Psycho-babble is wearing thin
Like the heels of these walking shoes
That I have been running in
Talk, talk, and more talk, talk
Empty rounds cannot
Buy you back your integrity

So brief
The quintessential jester leads us to the fall
We will see
We’ll see a minor hero won’t stand tall
