Jazz comes alive at Ale House
By Keenan Popwell
Features Staff
Jazz musicians and enthusiasts alike now have a consistent outlet in Auburn.
This comes in the form of Olde Auburn Ale House’s “Jazz Night” held every Tuesday night starting at 9 p.m.
Shawn Pfaffman Trio heads the show with its unique blend of jazz, funk and blues. The band consists of Shawn Pfaffman on keyboards, Jay Knorr on drums and Jason DeBlanc on bass guitar.
The trio is by no means the limit for “Jazz Night.” Special guests are common.
“A horn player or guitar player may sit in from time to time. Lately, we’ve just been developing our own style,” Knorr said.
The band has a spontaneous, smooth sound that fits well with Ale House’s laid-back surroundings. Mike Chavez, co-owner of Ale House, said “I really think jazz fits well with the atmosphere we have here.”
