Bio

Born in a small suburb outside of Pittsburgh, this Wilkinsburg, PA artist has been lighting up the stage from a very young age. ShayBriggs (Shannon Briggs) started singing when she was 10 years old and has won the hearts of many with her beautiful voice and kind spirit. She has performed all over the city of Pittsburgh in competitions such as the WAMO talent show, Pittsburgh’s Showtime at the Apollo, and performed at the famous Byham theater.

Briggs began rapping in 2009. Struggling to decide which music path to pursue, she found that her rapping and singing complimented one another very well. You’ll often find that she mixes the two, creating her own unique sound. Recognizing that there are not may female rappers who can serve as positive role models, she began taking strides to fill this void. Her goal is to make popular styles of music that serve as a vehicle to promote positive change. Influenced by 3 three of her favorite artists, Big K.R.I.T; J. Cole; and Priscilla Renea, Briggs says, “I love the way they can turn a common story into a musical masterpiece“, and that is what she strives to do.

ShayBriggs attends school at Loyola University in New Orleans. There she has had the opportunity to perform around the city at venues like The Dragons Den, Club Ampersand, The Rat, Tulane University, and more. She has also had the chance to collaborate with many of the local artists and dive into the world of poetry, making that her winning talent in the Miss Black and Gold Beauty Pageant. Being a female emcee, her talent is often underestimated, but she always leaves in awe those who witness her perform. Those prejudices never phase her though, as her focus is on getting her message out. ” I have a message to get out. I have minds to spark. I have voices that have been silence that I have to speak for. I know that I’m destined for this. And nothing or no one can stop me.”
