For the past year, Shayla has provided our establishment with great entertainment. Her extensive repertoire of jazz, blues and Motown has kept our customers smiling, singing along and always giving a resounding applause.
We have hired Shayla for special events such as Neighborhood Eats for ABC-TV, Holiday and private birthday and retirement parties and other events. We can always rely on her to be on time, look elegant with fashionable wardrobe and bring professional and talented musicians to accompany her.

"Cabaret Scenes"

Shayla Edmonds is clearly a jazz singer, but to describe her that way is to ignore her broader appeal. Her show kept this dyed-in-the-wool cabaret critic happy, as it obviously did for a mixed audience of jazz, cabaret, and even Motown fans, who got a few numbers to relish.
With four instrumentalists and two backup singers accompanying her, Edmonds virtually danced along with her vocals, her mobility on stage an attractive plus to her singing. If the vocal arrangements themselves – of songs varying from Ellington to Cole Porter – broke no new ground, they were captivating and well done, including an uptempo “Blue Skies,” “Fever,” and a strongly delivered “Proud Mary.”
Musical Director Lucy Galliher on piano, bassist Hideshi, drummer Glenn Soriano and Ron Service on sax and flute did the instrumental honors, with one-named backup singers Kimberly and Leslie. As good a collection as they were, and they had ample opportunity to show their mettle, they understood it was Edmonds' show, supporting her agreeably without ever overshadowing her.
A composition of Edmonds' own, “Blue-Eyed Blues,” commemorated an audition at which she lost the part because “they needed a blue-eyed blonde.” For laughs, and she got them, at her encore she reappeared adorned in a blonde wig. Edmonds came across as unfailingly warm, personable, upbeat and joyous.

Bio

Shayla Edmonds dynamic performances warm the soul, whether she is singing jazz, blues or classic R&B. The jazz band consists of New York's finest musicians on keyboard, bass, drums and sax. Two back-up girls (The Shaylettes) join the R & B band providing amazing harmonies fulfilling the soulful sound of the 60's to contemporary music.
Shayla began as a songwriter, co-writing a song for Betty Wright (of Clean-Up Woman fame), soloed with Lionel Hampton, sang back up for Fred Schneider (of B-52's) opened in Paris for Sydney Youngblood, and toured with a Marvelettes group singing lead and background.
Influenced by jazz greats, Ella, Etta Jones, Dinah, Natalie Cole, blues greats, Etta James, Ann Peebles, Big time Sara,
and R&B greats, Aretha, Tina Turner, Whitney, and all of the 3-girl groups of the 60's, Shayla's performance is an experience. She has the voice, personality, wardrobe, and the moves, to totally immerse any audience into her music, whatever the genre.
The band has performed at Neiman Marcus Paramus, for special events, The Chart Club, Marina Del Rey Yachts, Rudin Management "Cool Music" outdoor summer series, and countless local restaurants, corporate parties, weddings and birthday parties.
Rarely is there an audience who doesn't end up singing along or dancing the night away with Shayla.
