The Future is a Cartoon World
Shayne Holland is a singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist who has released his latest album vision called “The Future is a Cartoon World.” I make a point of saying “album vision,” because in this age of digital downloads marking a return to the dominance of singles and songs in the marketplace, the idea of buying an entire album, especially by a young and growing artist, is becoming increasingly out of fashion. I don’t say obsolete, because CD‘s like this one keep the idea alive. Holland‘s disc is solid from beginning to end - from the title track’s yearnings to the final assurance of “Faith.“
These songs are fully-realized and well-produced by a studio band that sounds as if its seasoned from months of touring. Especially vibrant is guitarist Milt Reder who color’s Holland’s cartoons and adds muscle when needed. With this CD throwing off a T-Rex or 70’s David Bowie vibe, Reder’s presence is not unlike the important one Mick Ronson held with Bowie’s Spiders from Mars band. Ronson made you sit up and boogie while the man who fell to earth dreamed up exciting tales to tell.
And so Shayne Holland, as an impressive songwriter, has plenty of tales to tell on this new disc. The songs on “Cartoon World” sparkle with pop hooks, yet drive forward with a modern vibe not unlike U2‘s. Holland’s Christian faith is balanced throughout the disc leading the believers to a deeper experience, but not alienating those who just wanna rock! I’m looking forward to more from this exciting young artist - bring it on!

In 1998 Shayne released his debut recording "Satellite" followed by 2001's four song CD "Rain". His first full length "Unconditional" released in the Spring of 2003 featured such hits as "Carry Me Home" and the heartfelt, title track "Unconditional" which received heavy airplay on AAA and College radio charting at number 20 on the CMJ top 200 that year. Shayne was also a featured performer at the Marblehead festival of Arts in Massachusetts in support of "Unconditional" and winner of best rock ballad, "Unconditional", in the Falmouth Arts association.
Shayne has just released his brand new full length album "The Future Is A Cartoon World" which paints multi-layered strokes of pop-rock music in the bright, hook-laden opening track "The Future Is A Cartoon World"(receiving airplay on Boston's "The River"92.5 FM), to the hopeful ballad "Don't Close Your Eyes"; from the dance beat infused rocker "Big Bang" to the captivating, heartening and anthemic "Sisters and Brothers".
In addition to Shayne's impassioned song writing and performance, he has assembled some of the best musicians in the industry to record this array of spirited songs on "The Future Is A Cartoon World"; they include: Dave Mattacks on drums who's recording and session work includes such legends as Paul McCartney, George Harrison, Jimmy Page, Elton John, XTC, Brian Eno and Jethro Tull; Brad Hallen on bass who's played for Aimee Mann, Susan Tedeschi, Ministry and Mike Welch; and Milt Reder on guitars who has played for Bo Diddley, Susan Tedeschi and Robin Lane and his band Four Piece Suit has received airplay on HBO and Showtime.
Shayne is touring the East Coast in promotion of "The Future Is A Cartoon World" and has already written and started the recording sessions for his next full length release.
