Sheba

Sheba

BandR&BWorld

I write all the melodies, and lyrics, collaborate with Madfly on the instrumentation and production, and sing all the parts. It sounds like a soulful, dancehall, reggae, afro-beat, hip hop mash-up on purpose. Like a Fela, Bob, Stevie, Akon, Chaka, Lauryn, Gwen love fest...

Biography

Evoking the glory and memory of the legendary line of Ethiopian Monarchs is the inspiration of Sheba: a Singer, Songwriter, Arranger, Producer, hailing from the majestic land of Ethiopia, reared in the concrete jungle of New York City. Sheba was named after the Queen of Sheba, the famed empress of Ethiopia, of whom she is indeed a direct descendent. As early as the age of four, she knew she loved to sing, but more importantly she knew she wanted to write songs. She recalls with humor the urge to write music in pre-school and the pure frustration of being unable to spell. Sheba instead made up songs off the top of her head to entertain her playmates, leaving her in awe of the power of music to move people. Eventually by the age of 11, with no formal training Sheba was regularly writing full songs and singing across four octaves. Eventually, she ended up at Cornell University where she earned a B.A. in Film Studies. Upon graduating, Sheba forged a musical partnership with Tommy "Madfly" Faragher (she began as his vocal student), himself an accomplished Songwriter, GRAMMY nominated Producer and one time recipient of the celebrated ASCAP POP AWARD. Sheba and Madfly are currently writing and recording Sheba's debut album. Sheba sings every note on her album, she writes every song lyric, rhyme, co-composes, co-arranges and co-produces every track. She made her stage debut on a small tour that took her from headlining at the Jazz Café in Camden, London, and Weekendz in Kingston, Jamaica to the Safari club in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Her sound truly hints to the varied textures of what it sounds like having grown up an African immigrant in the multi-cultural, diversity of New York City, acquiring facility in various languages, dialects, cultures and living and traveling on four different continents. Sheba boldly fuses Soul, Dancehall, Reggae, Afrobeat, Hip Hop, and Middle Eastern quarter-tones with ease, mashing them up into a sound that is fresh and new, but still reflects what is being heard on the radio today.

Infinite Love

INFINITE LOVE
Lyrics by Sheba
Music by Sheba and Tommy Faragher

Verse 1
All my love
From the very time
I fell into your sight
Felt you changing my life
It was so clear to me
That our love was destiny
Angels smiling on
We manifested this

Hook
Infinite Love
And your love plays the strings in me,
Plays, the chords in me
And you are my music
My possibility
My infinite love,
I love you times infinity

Verse 2
Don’t want to fall to deep now
I want to hold back because
This would just be too strong
And I don’t want to be
Long gone after you have left
Fighting what I can’t contain
Oh my love, I’d be bereft
I’d be left to ascertain, the truth…
Is that I have loved you
Like a powerful asunder
A wonder, a power that is meant to mine
Like a diamonds design
And I loved you
Since the dawn of time

Hook
It’s Infinite Love
And your love plays the strings in me,
Plays, the chords in me
And you are my music
You’re my possibility
My infinite love
I love you times infinity

Bridge
And I won’t fight what will be
You’re my destiny (you are my only love, oh)
It is my purpose (this is my purpose baby)
My purpose to be
Yours, infinitely

Bridge 2
Let me know
Baby come whatever
You’d give me that love
From a higher level
Enough things have changed
But I’ll never settle
It’s you I wanna love
Oh bless this love
Oh bless this love
Listen to me
Oh bless this love

Hook
It’s Infinite Love
And your love plays the strings in me,
Plays, the chords in me
And you are my music,
You’re my possibility
My infinite love
I love you times infinity

Refugee

Written By: Sheba Endeshaw and Tommy Faragher

I never did know your name
But I never could forget your face
though you haunt me like tears from a child
waiting for the pouring rain
I never did know did know your name

It was a final resort
A last minute safety transport
I never did tell you goodbye
left you with battles to fight
standing on the front lines

I can see my reflection
In a glass that has no place
mirrors all the people,
people who've been chased
I look for you,
In places that I go
Pieces of me,
In a home, I don't know

And
On behalf of the innocent
Still missing from here
We refuse
to be riddled with fear
and made to pay
for the bullets from the guns
lodged in the bodies of the victims
we refuse
telling you, we refuse

I can see my reflection
In a glass that has no place
mirrors all the people,
people who've been chased
I look for you,
In places that I go
Pieces of me,
In a home, I don't know

where do we go now?
when we ain't got no homes now?
where do we go now?
When we standing all alone now?

where do we go now?
when we ain't got no homes now?
where do we go now?
Refugees across the globe now.
