"Sheered Lepus Make Some of That Thar Music"

What is a Sheered Lepus? Oh, that's for them to know and you to find out.
Rock ‘n Roll is supposed to be dead. The Who weren’t uncertain if it was dead or alive, Lenny Kravitz said it was definitely dead, and Marilyn Manson, well, he said it was dead too. With all the death talk it’s a miracle the genre is able to keep going. Regardless if Rock is dead or alive, Sheered Lepus, a four piece rock band from Jackson county, have found their niche and are ready to rock your socks off in the New Year.

Brady Robinson, a small business owner for six years is just closing up shop to plan for a national tour. Robinson, the lead singer and vox player said it “seems like forever” that they’ve been playing together in some form or another in Ravenswood. For a while Scott their drummer was out of the loop living in Missouri. Robinson said they “tooled around for a while but couldn’t find a replacement.” Through a chance meeting with Jeff Westlake, guitarist of Hydrogyn, the band landed a deal with Destroy All Records (DA), distribution with BCD Music Group. After recording for months, the master tracks are complete, and just waiting on some finishing touches “they’re actually sitting on my desk ... I’m scared there’s going to be a fire and it’ll all be lost!” said Robinson.

One Bad Bunny is due out Jan. 9, 2009. A CD release party is planned at the Fairplain Yacht Club in Ripley the same day with Hydrogyn also playing. “For people to really understand us, they need to see us live ... we love playing live, it’s where we thrive.” Said Robinson, “and wherever we play, it’s going to be aggressive.”

Graffiti: Alright let’s start out with the basics, who’s in the band?

Robinson: Vox: Brady (the Fabulous Dancing Pig) Robinson; guitar: Chriss (Shmeg) Smith; bass: Kevin (Boosh) Bush; and drums: Scott Ellis (Elli-mo).

Graffiti: The name, what is a Sheered Lepus? Any special significance?

Robinson: The name does have significance but for now we’d like it to remain a mystery. Sheered Lepus came from the twisted mind of our guitar player Chriss Smith (Shmeg). I didn’t even realize what it meant for years.

Graffiti: Who are you main influences?

Robinson: Black Sabbath is without a doubt our biggest influence. This is shared by the band as a whole. We have very diverse influences on an individual level. Scott is a Lamb of God, Slayer, Pantera guy, Shmeg is an old school metal cat i.e. Iron Maiden (we cover Wrathchild on our album), Priest and also the Who, Floyd, Beatles and straight up good old fashion rock and roll. I am a huge Doors, Beatles fan and old school metal. Boosh likes anything that is good from blues to progressive metal. I should again say Black Sabbath.

Graffiti: What are you listening to these days?

Robinson: Shmeg and I have been really into the Who lately, Boosh has been listening to a lot of Heavy and Hell and Opeth and Scott is listening to Lamb of God.

Graffiti: What’s your favorite venue to play in or see a show?

Robinson: We originated from the sticks in Jackson County and used to play in the little bars up there like The High Tide and Malberrys. Since reforming the band we have been recording for the most part and after getting our deal with DA Records/BCD Music Group our attention moved toward playing. We have recently played at the Fairplain Yacht Club in Ripley. The Yacht Club is a great venue and you will probably see them booking more and more big shows in the future. The owner Jeff Paxton is a great supporter of music and a great guy. They have a new stage that was built for our show there with Hydrogyn in October so there is plenty of room. We brought in one hell of a stage production. On big shows we use Turner Stage Lighting and Dewey Decibel Systems for production. Both those companies are awesome.

"Oddly-named group hops toward success"

By LEE WARD / THE INDEPENDENT

ASHLAND December 31, 2008 10:12 am

— Rarely does a young rock band get signed to quickly.
The group Sheered Lepus, whose album “One Bad Bunny” was produced in Ashland, has a national record deal with Destroy All Records in Huntington and is due to be distributed nationwide Jan. 20.
Brady Robinson, a member of the West Virginia-based band, said Sheered Lepus has had a backward career. “We hadn’t played for years, then starting recording and the next thing you know, we are released nationally.”
The band members met while students at Ravenswood High School and put the band together, but Robinson said their lives took different paths.
“Three of us joined the military but we all dreamed of putting a band together after our enlistments,” he said.
While in the Air Force, Robinson said he learned many lessons that would help him in the band.
“My old boss in the Air Force, Jim Bellneir, taught me a lot about taking care of business no matter what that business is,” he said. “He taught me that a manager can manage anything, whether an Air Force mission, small business or a rock-and-roll band. I was given a lot of responsibility during my time under Sgt. Bellneir, even more than my military rank demanded.” He said his boss allowed him to have a rehearsal room for a band he put together while in the Air Force and added the experience built his confidence.
Robinson gave up his fire and water damange restoration franchise, which he ran successfully for six years, to pursue his rock band dream.
“Once we were signed to DA Records, we had to commit to the opportunity or wonder what could have happened,” he said. “It’s the business end of music — the biggest challenge — and we have a great support system in our corner.” Robinson credits Jeff Westlake of the band Hydrogyn and a producer for DA Records for discovering them when he heard their demo, recorded in 2007, and got them started recording their upcoming album.
Members share the responsibilities in song writing and point to a diverse collection of bands, including Iron Maiden, Metallica, The Doors and The Beatles, as influences.
“We’re a cross between Black Sabbath and Jane’s Addiction,” Robinson said. “Each of us has different tastes and influences, which makes for an interesting combo.”
The weird name comes from the imagination of guitar player Chriss Smith, a.k.a. Shmeg.
“Anyone who spells ‘Chris’ with a extra ‘s’ is obviously touched,” Robinson said/ “He just came in with it one day and we thought it sounded cool. I can’t remember entertaining another name. Lepus is Latin for rabbit, which explains the bunny mascott. It’s a little slapstick, but we are about fun.”
Although the band hasn’t played live a great deal beyond bars in Jackson County, W.Va., members have performed with other groups at various times before the band was reunited post-high school.
“We urge everyone to come see us live. That is where our hearts are,” he said. “We put everything we’ve got into our live performances. We appreciate that people come to see us and there is no way we’ll let them leave without pouring out our souls on stage.”

"Local Rock Band To Celebrate National Album Debut"

Local Rock Band To Celebrate National Album Debut

Special to Huntingtonnews.net

Ripley, WV (HNN) --- Local rock music fans will get a special treat the weekend of January 9-10, 2009.

Jackson County's own Sheered Lepus is celebrating the national release of their debut album with a launch party Friday, January 9, at the Fairplain Yacht Club in Ripley, WV. A second appearance is scheduled for the V-Club in Huntington, on January 10. Both performances begin at 10 p.m.

"We can think of no better way to celebrate our phenomenal success than to bring the party to West Virginia," said Brady Robinson, Sheered Lepus' lead singer. "It only appropriate that our national tour begin here in West Virginia, where we got our start."

The foursome delivers a heavy-handed, riff-laden sound reminiscent of Black Sabbath and Jane's Addiction. The band's debut album, "One Bad Bunny," contains original hard-hitting rock songs produced by Jeff Westlake, the co-founder of international sensation Hydrogyn.

Hydrogyn will join Sheered Lepus on stage both nights. That band's latest album "Deadly Passions" is doing incredibly well internationally on the heels of their worldwide debut "Bombshell" that hit the Billboard charts three times.

"One Bad Bunny" will be available online and in stores everywhere January 20. An international release is planned for later in 2009. - Huntingtonnews.net

Bio

From Parts Unknown (AKA Ravenswood, WV) hail Sheered Lepus. Ravenswood is best known for having more churches per capita than any other town in the United States. It also rests on the banks of the Ohio River. The endless struggle between church and skinny dipping can take a toll on the developing teenagers mind and frequently results in a schizophrenic type behavior. It is from this twisted state that Sheered Lepus was born. Now years into the struggle the Lepus is primed to pounce.

Our sound is “Heavy Handed, Riff Laden Rock and Roll Goodness” derived from a steady diet of Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, Old School Metal, Jane’s Addiction and many classic rock greats. Influences within the band are wide ranging but when boiled down become a thick, heavy Lepus stew. We may let you dance for a song or two but then we’re going to punch you in the mouth.

Vocalist, FDP (The Fabulous Dancing Pig) is pound for pound the world’s fastest mammal. The Pig was once quoted as saying “find me a 250lb cheetah and I’ll out run it”.
Bassist, Kevin Bush, refuses to accept the nickname Skunk Ape.
Guitar Picker, Chriss Smith (Shmeg), plans to legally change his name to Shmegommi. Support for this within the band is mixed.
Drummer, Scott Ellis (Elli-mo), is a magnet for flying rodents and a snappy dresser.
