Still working on that hot first release.

My name is Shelby Mackay and I am twenty years old. I am currently residing in Saskatchewan, where I grew up. I attend the University of Saskatchewan, and am in the college of education to become a teacher, but my biggest dream of all is to do something with music. I play the guitar and the piano, among other instruments. I couldn't imagine a life without music, as I have been singing and performing ever since I could remember. I performed on Tele Miracle when I was twelve years old, and loved the feeling I got from being on stage. I have also had many solo parts within musicals and even some plays, through my elementary and high school days. I absolutely love all genres of music, but my favourite would have to be country. My dad used to play country music around me when I was very young, and that, among coming from country roots defiantly spiked my interest in it. Music is my life, and I love performing for others and making people happy. I have a lot of energy when performing for an audience and am able to connect with them through my music. I write my own songs and use that as a way to express how I feel and what I have experienced. I love coming up with new verses and ideas to songs that mean something to me, and are fun and entertaining for others.

I have been lucky enough to have been blessed with life changing experiences throughout my life. My experiences are what have helped shape me into the person I am today. Amazing opportunities, such as living in Africa for 3 months and working at an orphanage in Belize are some of the few things that I have done within the last 3 years. I recently lived in Mali, Africa working with an organization called “Canada World Youth”, where I was able to give back to the well deserving communities that are so welcoming and friendly. Even though the community I lived in did not speak a word of English, I was encouraged to perform my music for them, as a form of entertainment on nights where the village would get together and celebrate. I loved that they were able to enjoy my music and dance without understanding a word. Music to me is a way to bring different cultures together, and allows them to forget about their worries, even if it’s just for a moment. Not only was that an amazing experience in its own, but having the chance to help out the community and work with them, live with them, and learn with them was something I will never forget. Its simple things such as that, that I will never take for granted and will always cherish. Among many other things, I have used some of my experiences and implemented them within my music. I am very grateful to be where I am today, but know I have the talent and energy to become something more. I hope to someday be acknowledged for my singing and performing skills, and I believe that someday it will come true, because of my determination and will.
