While many people say go big or go home, Sheldon Universe embodies it. Hailing from Toronto, Sheldon was always surrounded by the music of his city and family.

Sheldon quickly became a triple threat, learning dance, voice and piano when he was just in the third grade.
Drums led Sheldon to international tours and session work, and helped him see the bigger picture that he would eventually bring back to his own work. After years performing with other musicians, Sheldon has crafted his own solo material and knows how to get it right. Sheldon’s ambitious vision is what made him stand out for Music Mondays!

Through his R&B music, Sheldon blends tones of soul, pop, rock and even smaller hints from the myriad of genres he’s covered throughout the years. When he’s not putting on massive live shows, Sheldon is in the studio working on his new album Mine, where he mixes parts Bruno Mars, Pharrell and even some of the Weeknd into his smooth and refined sound. Even his lead singles “Mine” and “Pretty Woman” show a level of writing that many of his peers can’t even match.

“This album was basically me saying no to a lot of creations and finding a cohesive sound for my album” said Sheldon.
Staying positive in a dark world, Sheldon’s music is guided by love and compassion, for music that oozes excitement.

With the glossy guitars and funk grooves that put Starboy to shame, “Pretty Woman” is an ambient and cool track that mixes modern pop with a Sting-like delivery. Sheldon’s lyrics tell the story of a man fearless to express his love, hoping to change it all through his care and devotion. The neon overtones to the cool vibe of the song makes it infectious, as you fall deeper and deeper into its distorted hooks.

There’s a little bit of Prince and Michael Jackson in “Mine” as Sheldon dives right into his dance side with a euphoric joy. The soaring vocal hooks are over-the-top with bliss, and the frantic beat of the song drives it right between disco and EDM. There’s even tones of vaporwave sounds in the dry production that permeates the song, and the simple story of love that’s woven throughout the track is one that will leave you mesmerized. - Best Kept Montreal

Canadian singer/songwirter Sheldon Universe has unveiled his new single Pretty Woman, the first single off his upcoming album Mine. This is an infectious piece of R&B and soul, super smooth and groovy.

With his energy being painted with his inspirations such as Michael Jackson, Max Martin, and Coldplay, Sheldon Universe expresses the positive thinking he wants out of his music. With his new album Mine expect to have your spirits lifted. Speaking about it Sheldon said,
I have made all kinds of music from generic pop, rock, to low frequency trap to broadway jazz to electronic dance and world music … experimental music and this album was basically me saying no to a lot of creations and finding a cohesive sound for my album. The album is about being in love and is only the beginning of my journey as an artist and there is lots more to come. - Caesar Live N Loud

Solo artist, Sheldon Universe brings a fun, funky, feel- good, fresh sound to the airwaves . The soulful, yet danceable tracks will have you getting ready for a whole different angle of pop! The name is used as an artist surname or family name promoting the unity of all, it is also a word that can remind us to look at the bigger picture and realize life is so much more than just us and our day to day small troubles that sometimes feel enormous.

Solo artist, Sheldon Universe brings a fun, funky, feel- good, fresh sound to the airwaves . The soulful, yet danceable tracks will have you getting ready for a whole different angle of pop! The name “Sheldon Universe” originally began as only a domain name, and when he would send messages to friends they would receive something “sent from sheldonuniverse.com” which eventually would lead to his stage name, Sheldon Universe.

Born in Toronto, Canada from a large family of musicians, the entertainment business was always prevalent in Sheldon’s life. He started training in dance, classical voice and piano in the 3rd grade, and took up jazz drums in 5th grade, which became his main instrument. When he was 16, Sheldon started working as drummer in the family cover band. This led to him becoming a session drummer for studio recordings and cover bands, which then led to working in a show band for Carnival Cruise Lines, and later a Europe tour with Latin Recording Artist, Alex Bello. Since then he toured with countless artists highlighting; Grammy Award winning Theodosii Spassov amongst many other pop, singer/songwriter, R&B, hip hop, latin, rock, country, jazz and world music artists.

With his energy being painted with his inspirations such as Michael Jackson, Max Martin, and Coldplay, Sheldon Universe expresses the positive thinking he wants out of his music, “remembering life should be enjoyed while living”. With his new album “Mine” expect to have your spirits lifted. “I have made all kinds of music from generic pop, rock, to low frequency trap to Broadway jazz to electronic dance and world music … experimental music and this album was basically me saying no to a lot of creations and finding a cohesive sound for my album”. His goal is to offer a positive, light spirit amidst the mass of dark tones and lesser musical content out there. “the album is about being in love and is only the beginning of my journey as an artist and there is lots more to come.” – Sheldon Universe

About the single “Pretty Woman” :

The first single off the upcoming album is the song “Pretty Woman”, it’s “ a song showing that I am not scared to say “I love you”. It is smooth with a bit of old school feel R&B in it.” – Sheldon Universe. The song’s vibe is smooth and chill but it has some groove to as well.

There's no other way to say it: Sheldon De Souza is a badass drummer. Raised by a family of musicians, he's known all about the power of music. He drums for the Toronto Raptors (the team's official bucket drummers are known as "The 6ix Stix") and the Ryerson University Performance: Dance program.

De Souza has found much success as a drummer, but he doesn't feel fulfilled yet. As you'll find out in this video, he wants to pay it forward. His mission is to inspire youth to find their voice through music by teaching drumming at high schools and to incarcerated youth in prisons, and he hopes to break into the industry to create his own performance-based music that spreads a message of positivity.

For him, the universality of bucket drumming is what makes it so powerful. As he puts it: "It doesn't matter who you are — from a grandfather to a baby, you can play the drum."

"When I'm playing a drumbeat, all of a sudden you see their foot tapping or you see their body start to move. And I know I'm affecting them because of what I'm playing. That's when I realize the power of the drums: it's primal — it's such a release."

De Souza is currently working on his album, set to be released in April. He'll be performing at Stars Come Out in Barrie, Ontario on May 8, and you can also catch him at Sound of Music Festival in Burlington, Ontario, June 16-17. - CBC

Hosted and organized by audio engineer and local musician Sheldon De Souza, this Saturday's musical jam is a way to see "fresh talent in our community" says De Souza.

The Canada Day isn't just a celebration of our nation; it's also a way for the community, especially local talent, to network with each other.

I want people to communicate, make new friends and I want to make sure people recognize Mississauga music" De Souza explains.

Sheldon Universe

Sheldon De Souza is a Goan-Canadian. Born in Toronto raised in Mississauga. At age 2, he was already break dancing and singing along with Michael Jackson’s “Beat It” at every event. From a family of musicians tracing back to his grandfather, big band leader Maurice Concessio, music was always prevalent in Sheldon’s life.

He started formal vocal and piano training in the 3rd grade at St. Michael's Choir School, joined Brenda's Theatre Dance Arts, Eleanor Calbes' Vocal Studio, and Mississauga Youth Theatre. During the 5th grade with Humber College Jazz Program he performed drums, which later became his main instrument.

When he was 16, Sheldon started working in the family band and later as a session drummer in many different types of bands which later led to a gig with Carnival Cruise Lines, and later a Europe tour with Latin Recording Artist Alex Bello. Sheldon has since worked with countless artists and performed in many capacities around the world.

Sheldon found songwriting after his first big break up. His first songs were of lost love and betrayal. Through life experiences including a life-threatening motorbike accident and new relationships his music took a turn for the positive. After a few trips to Hollywood and Vegas to pursue his dream, he has since returned to Toronto better equipped for a long term career. With lots of repetition, reviews, and revisions Sheldon has discovered authenticity as an artist as well as technique as an entertainer.

As a Guest Artist and Speaker with his 'Stomp'-like duo, Rhythm Works, he has been featured on CBC's Artist Profile, TedxTalk, YTV's Zoink'd, and in commercials for Metrolinx, McDonalds, Walmart. He has taught music workshops to those in youth prison, kids with disabilities, First Nations, and underprivileged communities.

He is an All-round Performer delivering his love of stage production and his love for all people through his music while trying to build positive communities wherever he performs.
