Music Biography

Background/Education

During elementary and secondary schools in Texas and Florida, Shelley developed her art and skill with seven years of private vocals applied in school and church choirs.
This was followed by one year at Rend Lake Junior College where she continued her vocal lessons and training in the school choir, which included a performance of
Carmina Burana, written by Carl Orff.

Shelley’s work brought her to SLC, Utah in 1982 where she met Mark Hauser, a professional jazz guitarist from San Diego, California, who became her mentor.
Mr. Hauser helped Shelley polish her act and skills for the next 18 years.
He was a great influence and best friend. He passed in 1999. Although he lives on in Shelley and her music.

Shelley graduated from Bryman’s School of Broadcasting with honors in 1990.
At the University of Utah Shelley sang with the Women’s Choir, conducted by Celia R. Baker, performing programs for one year in 1993.

Teaching

Two years (1989-1991): stage performance and private vocals.

Professional Experience (1979-2008).

On Marco Island, Florida, Shelley taught herself guitar and honed her craft as a singer/musician at The Yacht Club and other various Island nightspots: O’ Shea’s,
September’s, The Snook Inn, Stan’s in Goodland, and Quinn’s at the Marriott.

In London, England, at the age of seventeen, Shelley played at Victoria Station for a week before booking her act at local nightclubs for the next three months.

In Denver, Colorado she sang and played guitar at Josephina’s for 6 mo. 1982

Shelley has been based in SLC, Utah since 1982 and has traveled extensively. She will be returning
to SLC, Utah at the end of October.

Performing as a solo artist and appearing with other well known talent including:

Texas Guitar Slinger Slim Hawkins-Billy Blues Club/ Houston, Texas
Dwight Sills-Houston, Texas
Junior Watson, Canned Heat, Tempo Timers, Rick Welter, Harry O and Blues on First, in SLC, Ut.

In 1986 Shelley Performed at Gilley’s in Pasadena, Texas

While in SLC, Utah Shelley also performed at most of the Clubs and Ski Resorts including Park City until 2002. Twenty years she lived in SLC and played solo while raising her only son alone. Her repertoire consistsof classic seventy tunes mixed in with her own original material. She has a fan base that is very loyal.

In April of 2001 Shelley performed for a week in Las Vegas including two nights at the New York, New York Hotel/Casino.

Composing

Shelley is prolific songwriter with a huge repertoire of original songs to draw upon for her performances and recordings. She composed two songs with nationally known guitarist Dwight Sills
who plays for Rick Braun currently. (She composed several songs with her Mentor, Mark Hauser as well.)
She also wrote the finale song for the children’s production,
”Do Not Feed the Trash-a-saurus.” This ecologically based production using puppets and marionettes of various types was performed in The Children’s Museum of Utah and in schools and Festivals throughout Utah.
Shelley is also a published poet.
