Who Is Shelley Strahan?

Shelley is a dedicated 21 year old singer/songwriter from Liverpool. Shelley is known for her humble and understated approach despite her unmistakable talent. She describes her musical style as acoustic folk with subtle undertones of jazz, soul and blues. Her influences include; Joni Mitchell, John Martyn and Fleetwood Mac.

What Has She Done?

Perhaps Shelley’s most notable gig to date was her impressive debut at Glastonbury Festival in 2011, where she took to the stage twice over the course of the weekend, with an impromptu performance with 5 Minutes notice on the Friday and then again on the Sunday, playing to a rapturous Leftfield tent on both occasions.

Since her first nervous gig in her local club in 2004, Shelley has come a long way. Shelley was honoured to perform at In The City Manchester in 2006 aged just 16, after she was personally invited by the late Tony Wilson.

Other Notable Gigs include The Matthew Street Festival in 05’ & 07’, a trip to Creamfields Festival in 07’, the Echo Arena in 08’, Prestigious Jazz Club Ronnie Scotts in 09’, and an unforgettable night at St George’s Hall when Shelley was invited to take the stage with singer/songwriter Billy Bragg, during Liverpool Sound City 2009.

Amongst these notable gigs Shelley has continued to play smaller local venues in and around Liverpool and Manchester, whilst completing her degree in Popular Music and Recording with First Class Honours from the University of Salford.

Have I Heard of Her?

You may have come across Shelley’s music in the North West area, where she has been based during her time at University. Shelley has performed on BBC Radio Merseyside, BBC Radio 7 and at BBC Blast. Shelley’s music has also been featured on ITV’s North West Tonight, and footage of her 2011 Glastonbury performance was used as part of the BBC’s coverage of the event. Shelley has also been steadily building a following on social media sites such as Facebook, Myspace and most recently Twitter.

What Do People (In the Know!!) Think of Shelley?

-The Late Tony Wilson admitted that watching Shelley perform “brought tears to his eyes”. He described her voice as “utterly beautiful” and her songwriting as “wonderful”. Tony then went on to sum shelley up as “Stunning and truly talented”.

-At the same music industry conference in 2006 (ITC) industry expert Jonathan Shallit commented that Shelley had; “ An enormous talent and a very bright future”.

-Shelley can also count Pixie Lott amongst her fans, when the pop star contacted Shelley to let her know that she; “Loves her Music”.

-Billy Bragg has long been a supporter of Shelley. Having invited her to sing at Glastonbury Festival in 2011, Billy described Shelley performance as “Unbelievable for a first timer” adding that “This kid is going places!!!”.

Why Should She Play at This Festival?

Since completing her degree in the summer of 2011, Shelley has been seriously pursuing her musical career. Inspired by her performance at Glastonbury 11’, Shelley is eager to gain more experience, and is enthusiastic about showcasing her music at every given opportunity.
