Sheree Plett

Love, tragedy, hope and loss. These things are all essential to the human experience. Artists consistently draw from these wells as a means of inspiration or simply as an outlet, but rarely do they get portrayed in such a tangible way as they do with Sheree Pletts' record, Red Circled Heart.

Originally released in 2006, Red Circled Heart was recorded in Buena Vista Audio at the hands of Jonathan Anderson, founder of Anniedale Records, and prominent west coast Indie music producer (Kensington Prairie, Stabilo, Radiogram).

The record was independently released, and after several Canadian and US tours, Plett managed to sell over 1000 copies of the record shortly after its release.

With an eclectic group of songs, Pletts' smokey, sultry vocal acrobatics are subtle and smart. They weave through songs like vines through a garden, and where the songwriting takes twists and turns, Sheree’s voice is a consistent comfort throughout the journey.

The track ‘Autumn’ opens the front door of this album, and it’s string arrangements allow for a warm welcome. Singing of love in its early moments, Plett manages a comfortability that is both breathtaking, and intriguing.

Quickly we’re shown the door with the track, ‘Songbird’. But the door is to the backyard, where Plett leads the listener through the garden in the early morning before the sun rises. ‘Sing for me, my precious songbird. You’re my lullaby in the night, and my wake up morning call’ are the lyrics sung in a near whisper.

Pletts' ability to write brilliant folk-pop gems is showcased in the albums single, ‘Flood’. Long standing radio DJ/Television VJ and music critic Sooke Yin Lee took notice of this and announced ‘Sheree Plett is far above and beyond the average ’girl with the guitar singer/songwriter’’ on the Canada wide CBC radio show ‘DNTO’. 'Flood' was also featured on CBC Radio 3 as the 'Track of Day' and received pleasant remarks from Tariq Hussain who saw Sheree and the band play while on tour in Calgary.

In witnessing a recent live performance, the Georgia Straight's Colin Thomas commented ‘These two (Plett and husband Jeremy Eisenhauer) sing in folksy harmonies and Plett’s sweetly smokey voice is particularly pleasing’.

The subtle moodiness of the band is taken into notice with songs like ‘Death Due us Part’ and ‘Winter’. The somber lyrics,‘I know when I said I love you, ’till death due us part, it included this time where we don’t feel a thing’ pour slowly out as the lap steal, piano, drums and acoustic guitar cry out their own tune. The song ‘Winter’ features the bands ability to write hooks and find parts that feature a marriage between lyric, melody, and instrumentation.

Two years later, we find the re-release of Red Circled Heart on Anniedale Records out of Vancouver, BC. Tour plans for 2009 are in the works and include Canadian dates as well as American and European. Sheree plans to return to the studio for her third full-length record in May of 2009, with an expected release date of September, 2009.
