"Looking like a Nicole Kidman but with the inner drive of Alanis Morisette, young Vancouver singer/songwriter Sherise Valley delivered a promising set of new and original material at her CD debut at the Roxy".

Sherise Valley's debut album is a sonic mix of aged bourbon and cherry cola. she's like a honey bee that just might sting you. "blackout" is captivating from start fo finish.

Sherise radiates a cloud of smoke and cool that hipsters with the right haircuts will never be able to attain. She has the unique ability to write songs that find your secret heart and shred it just a little more, and her songs hold up whether played with a full band or as a solo performer. Sherise saves us all the hard work of a heart ache and offers up beautiful imagery, bad boys and open road. This album sounds best alone in a car late at night. She is just getting started. Lucinda Williams would be happy to buy her drinks.

From the artwork to the production and especially the songs, it's a class act all around. It is rare to see a "new" artist with such a strong collection of material. Where the hell have you been hiding all these years!

Sherise Valley’s “Over The Border” Named December “Best Song Of The Month”
By Dale Kawashima
Sherise Valley, a promising, pop/rock, singer/songwriter based in Vancouver, BC, Canada, has won the SongwriterUniverse “Best Song Of The Month” Contest for December, for her song “Over The Border.” This song is one of 12 cuts that will be featured on her debut CD, which will be released in early Spring, 2005.
“Over The Border” is a fresh-sounding, modern pop/AAA song, which has a very hooky chorus. The song’s lyric chronicles the break-up of a relationship, and how she has moved on from it, with a positive attitude. The recording of “Over The Border” features Valley’s distinctive, appealing lead and harmony vocals. Valley wrote this song by herself, and she also played most of the guitar tracks on this cut, including lead, electric guitar.

Bio
Featuring the production wizardry of Juno-winner Mark Makoway (formerly of Canadian rockers Moist), The catchy hook-driven songs from Sherise Valleys debut CD Blackout crackle to life with energy and thoughtful edgy lyrics.
Full of accessible alternative pop-rock tunes, youll find yourself humming along to Sherises honey-sweet vocals and big guitar hooks by the time the second choruses come along.
Radio-ready Over the Border currently loops on the Songwriter Universe playlist after winning the online magazines international "Best Song of the Month" contest in Dec, 2004. And "Highway of Love" just placed in Songwriter Universe's Top 5 songs for March 2006. Meanwhile, Tracks from the CD have already garnered airplay on college radio stations across Western Canada and the U.S.
As a songwriter, Sherise was selected twice for British Columbia Festival of the Arts conferences. And her songs won two Canadian Factor grants.
But Sherise isnt just another chick with a guitar pick. After three university degrees, Sherise Valley (aka Cherise Valerie Burda) rocks out at her day gig as a policy expert and director with Canadas leading environmental non-profit, the David Suzuki Foundation.
In fact, PrintAction Magazine just listed her (Burda) as one of 50 most influential Canadians in graphic communications for her work on science-based alternatives to the destruction of Canada's rainforests. Its all fodder for the life experiences and insight that shine through in her tunes.
But dont expect songs about trees.
With influences as diverse as the Ramones, Lucinda Williams, Liz Phair, Yo La Tengo, and Radiohead, the tunes on Blackout range from bourbon-inspired summer road songs (Over the Border) to political commentary (Looks Like War) to the sassy, sarcastic Sugar Mama.
Sherise just moved to Toronto and is quickly assembling a new band. Blackout is being re-released in Toronto this summer.
