"OVERCOMING CHALLENGES - THE STORY BEHIND THE SONGSTRESS"

In January 2000 Shermain left her Caribbean nesting place and family
and moved to New York City, where she struggled for many years to pursue her musical career. She tells us of the years to come where doors were closed and disappointment followed.

" This is a tough industry and it was difficult watching my dreams become a reality for others and dealing with all the disappointments and false promises. I became despondent and I decided to let go of my dreams".

Then deciding to build a career in diplomacy, Shermain became the youngest individual to ever be employed by Antigua's Permanent Mission to the United Nations where she served as Special Assistant to Antigua’s Ambassador and worked her way up the diplomatic ladder, even having the opportunity to address the General Assembly as Rapporteur of the 6th Committee.

"Despite the prestige of the job and the great experience I had at the U.N. I still felt incomplete. My music kept calling and at that point I decided to enter the Miss World Pageant in 2004."

Shermain went on to win the World Talent Award and gained herself a
position as one of the top 10 finalists. With her outstanding success at Miss World, Shermain went onto enter the Miss Universe Pageant in 2005 where she was and still is considered one of the top 5 contenders of that year.

Now convinced that music needed to be an absolute in her life, Shermain decided to give the industry one more try and this time she would not Fail. Shermain then transferred to the Tourism Department as a Spokesperson and event planner.

Her work with the Tourism Department allowed her many opportunities which included performing at the NYC Triathlon in Central Park, performing live on the WB11 and Fox 5 morning news as well as being a guest on the Wendy Williams Experience. After performing around New York and winning a number of talent shows one of which gained her an interview at Atlantic Records, Shermain’s dream was still yet to become a reality. It was at this point, that she decided to take her career into her own hands. With the help of her sister and parents, she created TropicGem Records and embarked on one of the most challenging experiences of her life - creating and recording her first album.

Shermain became even more focused and driven and began writing and recording at Quad Studios and Integrated Studios. In the Summer of 2006 she released her first trial single featuring Caribbean Dancehall superstar Vybz Kartel called “I Came to Show You”. The single was a hit and gained a number one spot on Caribbean radio stations and Top 10 play lists. That same year, Shermain was featured on the cover of Black Hair Magazine U.K. while “I Came to Show You” was nominated for five
National Vibes Awards copping two for Dancehall Song of the Year and Pop Song of the Year.

Excited and surprised by the overwhelming response, Shermain persevered in the studio even more determined to finish her album. It was during a recording session that Eternal Source Productions signed to Atlantic Records/Warner Music Group heard her and offered her an opportunity to bring her project to another level. Jumping quickly at this opportunity Shermain is now more confident that her project will be an ultimate success.

As the face of Farouk hair products Deep Brilliance hair color line and
being the recent cover girl of Basia Magazine-The Caribbean Lifestyle
Magazine, Shermain was also honored by her country Antigua and Barbuda with a National Award of the Most Previous Honor of the Princely Heritage, for outstanding service to music and the arts.

With the launch of her new official website www.shermain.com, a new and interactive site, Shermain will be taking fans on a virtual experience which includes personal greetings, new single releases, news and updates, photos, the launch of her up and coming music videos as well as video webisodes of the budding artist and a look into her personal journey as a Caribbean Entertainer.

There is certainly no denying, that this Caribbean bombshell brings a
new and refreshing flavor to the industry - rhythmic and pure in sound, sexy and sassy in style she definitely portrays her culture in her
image and her music. Eager to follow in the footsteps of her fellow
Caribbean counterparts like Shaggy, Sean Paul, Rihanna and most recently Sean Kingston, this Caribbean starlet realizes that her time is now. Destined to take the world by storm, this triple threat diva is ready to show the world what she’s really made of!
