Bio

In less than one year, Sherri Gough has accomplished what might take the ordinary songwriter five years to accomplish. She was chosen to be 1 of 12 people in Jeffrey Steeles songwriting bootcamp from about 500 entries. She won 1st Place in the comedy category of the 2008 USA Songwriting Competition competing with pro writers in an international competition. She was featured on the front cover of the Guild of International Songwriters and Composers Magazine for the second quarter of 2009. She had two songs place in the honorable mention category of the 2009 CMT/NSAI Songwriting Contest, which represents being in the top 1.5% of entries submitted. Those statistics show her accomplishments, but cannot begin to describe her motivation and passion for her gift of songwriting.
Sherri was born and raised in a suburb of Minneapolis. She took piano lessons and immediately knew that she wanted to write her own songs instead of play what was on the page. All through high school she wrote in many different genres of music including Christian, jazz, and a cappella. She moved to Nashville to attend college, and stayed there for a number of years before deciding to pursue her musical goal of being a songwriter. Since that decision about one year ago, a lot has happened and she is going forward full force pursuing her dream.
Sherri plays a variety of writers nights around Nashville on a regular basis with some of her co-writers and music friends. She has performed at the Country Music Hall of Fame and the renowned Bluebird Caf. She plays guitar and piano, and has a stylistic approach to her vocals that is very unique. Her music has been recorded by independent artists and featured on DVDs. She has shared the stage with songwriting legends Jeffrey Steele, Sam and Annie Tate, and Lee Miller.
In one of her recent songs she wrote Ill walk right through the blaze with sweat on my face, goin forward like a big steel train, when Im done the world wont be the samecause of my song. She named her new music company Steel Train Music because of her ambition to keep going forward.
Sherri is also an author, a wife, and mom to five children, three of whom were adopted as a sibling group from the foster care system. Consequently, she is an adoption advocate and is a board member for an organization called Agape, an adoption and counseling center.
