Gritty folk with a bit of twang

Starting out in 2000, the Santa Cruz based Sherry Austin Band has been entertaining audiences throughout California. In 2009 the band performed on the main stage at the Kate Wolf Festival, Sisters Folk Festival, and the American River Music Festival.

Fronted by Sherry Austin on guitar and vocals, with Sharon Allen sharing lead vocals, the band also consists of Lisa Burns on bass, and either Steve Perez on guitar and vocals, or Charlie Wallace on steel, dobro and guitar.

“Gritty folk, with a bit of twang” is how Sherry describes her band’s music. The band performs original songs written by Sherry and Sharon Allen, as well as much loved covers by Americana artists, such as Kate Wolf, Townes Van Zandt, and Tim O’Brien.

Sharon released her first solo album last summer and is also enjoying much success with air play on KPIG, as well as having a song on the Freight Train Boogie compilation.

Sherry’s two albums have received regular airplay from KPIG and many other stations. Her song “I Wouldn’t Lie to You” is featured on two compilations, and has been recorded by others. She has just completed her third album, “Love Still Remains”, paying tribute to the late Kate Wolf.
