Sheryn Binks

Every so often a song will be so well crafted and full of sincere sentiments that it reaches beyond the ears and permeates the very heart of the listener. It is not unlike having a conversation with someone who quickly gains your respect, and offers you a fresh perspective on everything you've been wondering about recently. Your interest is piqued, your heart is warm, and your mind is open as you feel like you are making a connection with a stranger who is quickly becoming a friend. The self-titled debut album from Australian singer/songwriter Sheryn Binks, is a collection of these rare types of songs.

Sheryn was raised in Perth, Australia. Her environment, from a very young age, was a musical one. At six years-old she began playing the piano, but her true passion emerged when she discovered her father's 12-string acoustic guitar nearly 10 years later. Almost immediately she dove head first into the experience of crafting songs. Sheryn has been very determined to share her art with people, in hopes that her songs would be as much of a gift to others as they had been to her.

A large piece of Sheryn's heart is unmistakably woven into her album. It becomes very obvious to the listener when she sings on the opening track, "There's a little picture in my head that you're drawing. And I know it's gonna be brighter than me". Her incredible sense of self-awareness is both sobering and empowering for the listener. The record as a whole is very peaceful, and Sheryn's vocal performance conveys exactly what she is saying to you with her lyrics. Her voice is smooth and placid, as well as purposeful and convincing.
