Bio
Korean-born jazz vocalist and composer SHINOK CHUNG began her musical education at the age of 6, when she first started to study the piano. She developed a keen interest in singing when she was in college and since then has been working in pop, rock, classical, and jazz music for more than a decade.
While performing in 2002 at the Nanzing International Jazz Festival in China, Shinok was impressed by the many different types of music now available globally, and she became determined to explore music from many different perspectives. She moved to New York in 2005 and begun working with jazz luminary Sheila Jordan and started to play in club throughout New York. She has applied herself diligently to her jazz education, studying impro George Garzone and Brian Lynch, composition with Gil Goldstein in the last three years. Also she has coached at New Jersey Conservatory and JOA Entertainment, has worked for Tim Janis Ensemble and sung at C4 contemporary choir.
She holds an M.A in jazz vocal performance from New York University and has recently appeared at venues such as club Cachaca, Maxim Lounge in the Stanford Hotel, the Grind, Village Bistro and Club J'z in midtown Manhattan.
