Shit City High may not be in the most respected company, but they sure know how to offend and rock the "shit" out of the crowd. The newest band to come out of Houston by way of Austin is quickly turning heads and opening ears and making themselves known even to us! Caught a quick and somewhat addictive glimpse at them during the Misfits show last weekend and they have definitely become one of my favorite bands. if you get a chance to check them out, be sure to do so. Regardless of genre, a musician's sound indirectly reflects his or her identity. To wit, some females are dainty pretty girls by nature; these girls typically own an all white power-suit and/or dress. Some have been through some serious mess, which you can usually identify by the "Baddest Bitch" moniker that follows their name. Some are sappy, head-in-the-heavens type girls: naturally, these girls play Midwest-style piano. And some should probably have some sort of pay-to-view Web cam set up at their homes.
A rare few, though, have impulsions that drive them to become lead singers of a ratty punk-rock groups. Meet Shit City High, punk band by way of Austin led by female vocalist MansRuin (do with that what you will) with a penchant for high speed three-chord riffs and usage of the term "asshole."
We've had our eye on SCH for a while now, but have only now have worked up the nerve to interview them after a few emails urged us to do so. (We're quite intimidated by confident independent women, it would appear.)

Shit City High is a very unique blend of 80's era L.A. metal, 70's NYC punk and heavy rock 'n' roll wrapped up with catchy sing-a-long hooks and blown out guitar riffs, all at full volume. Although, they claim to be from "Shit City," the Texas based band has been about as mysterious as they are infamous, featuring members of Austin based drunk rockers The BlackNovas, Die Cobra, Stretford, The Ritchie Whites. The band has also featured friends like, Holland's legendary punk guitarist Tony Slug (The Nitwits, B.G.K. and The Hydromatics), and Don Curliso A.K.A. "Demonboy" of L.A.'s Texas Terri and the Stiff Ones, King of Kings and VA's Deviltones as past guitarist, as well. Shit City High was immediately signed to Austin based label Dead City Records before even playing their first show and people knew why when they blew away the crowds at the SXSW music festival during the Label's showcase in 2008. With fans that include legendary punk rockers such as The Hookers, The Candy Snatchers, ThrowRag and Electric Frankenstein; it's no wonder they have garnered so much attention in the year and a half, they have been a band. Lead singer "MansRuin" looks possessed by the gods of rock, or the spirit of Wendy O. as she thrusts and jumps around the stage, but, this woman isn't limited to just being on stage. No, you can pretty much count on seeing her throw herself into the crowd night after night! Don't be fooled by her Joan Jett good looks either, she is truly a sight to watch and hear and has been quoted (and best described), as "Iggy Pop with a bra!" The rhythm section is held down by Ken Demon on Drums and Deilan on Bass. Ken Demon sounds like he has eight arms and plays like Keith Moon resurrected, while Dielan tends to throw in witty and well placed bass walks even during the fastest songs. Guitarist Pablo Ono and Zak Randumb are punk rock's golden boys with their perfectly dialed in tones, throwing leads back and forth ala Thin Lizzy, all while pushing their Marshall stacks to "none louder!" Although the band itself is relatively young, each of the members are somewhat punk vets having played and payed their dues in various other bands for the past 15+ years, but you wouldn't know it by looking at them. Their songs are catchy, sexy and sleazy and they have been spewing out their "I don't give a fuck" brand of rock 'n' roll, for various crowds across the country with everyone such as punk vets, Electric Frankenstein, The Misfits, Blower (former Didjits members), and Buzzcrusher to tour monsters like fu manchu, Speedealer, The Bulemics, The Mentors, ADHD and the new Warped Tour flavored darling's, The Heart Attacks. The band has completed their new full length album entitled "Friction Baby!" and will be available early 2010, as they are in talks with various labels, both here in the U.S. and in Europe. The band is also in works to do 7' splits with bands such as the legendary evil rockers, The Hookers and Electric Frankenstein!!
