"Shiver Shiver CD Release Party (Exerpt)"

August 7, 2008

Local Tunes
By Marq Manner

One of the bands in Omaha that people have been talking about in the past year is Shiver Shiver. The young duo of Jordan Elsberry and Chase Thornburg have been impressing audiences with their “big sound from a two-piece” on Omaha’s live stages...

The band’s literary and cryptic style of lyricism is also hard to pin down at times. This makes their debut album, “Soulless Sex Appeal,” an interesting listen time and time again. While one tries to put together the stories in their mind they are also becoming addicted to many hooks played by two of the most proficient young musicians in town...

"Shiver Shiver at Slowdown"

August 6, 2008

Shiver Shiver to get sexy at Slowdown this Saturday, Aug. 9

"The soulfully seductive duo Shiver Shiver (i.e. Chase Thornburg and Jordan Elsberry) are planning quite the party at Slowdown to celebrate the release of their debut full length, “Soulless Sex Appeal.” On-board for support are local singer-songwriter Tim Wildsmith and DJ-extraordinaire Brent Crampton."

"Known for their eclectic live performances and their thoughtful songwriting, Thornburg and Elsberry are both apt musicians that have a wide range of influences..."
- Omaha City Weekly

"Shiver Shiver"

“We live in a world where music is divided into simple categories that Shiver Shiver doesn’t fit into. We call our music 'Hip Pop,' because it is pop music, but it’s not cheesy. Shiver Shiver’s sound comes from our background in jazz, yes, but also from our influences in literature and rock. Vladimir Nabokov and David Bowie have as much to do with our music as do Wayne Shorter and Beck. I know it may sound incongruous, but it all fits together like a puzzle” (Chase Thornburg, drums and voice). Indeed it does all fit together. From the opening thunder of the groove-driven “Twilight Dreamer” to the Beatles-esque “Stop Lying,” Shiver Shiver’s music is smart, organic, funky and complex. - theindiemusicdb.com

"Shiver Shiver Saturday @ Slowdown"

Jazz kids turned rock pop. Ambidextrous anomalies on automated lucidity. Glam dreams manifesting through oversized shades and bright spandex. Music for the seekers.

Aka - Shiver Shiver.

I have the pleasure to play alongside Omaha's Shiver Shiver this Saturday. Their musicality and song writing ability place them amongst one of the most exciting acts to emerge in our area recently.

Jordan Elsberry of the group slipped me an advance copy of the album they are releasing this Saturday at Slowdown. I recommend getting it. Even more, I recommend you get the album AND see them live in one swoop for one charge of $10. That's a deal I don't think Costco could even culminate. And the line-up is great - Tim Wildsmith's stern song writing ability will open up the night, with Shiver Shiver setting the shambles afire, followed by a dance party with yours truly moments after I return from New Mexico. Hot chilies for everyone!

Check out more info in any of Omaha's culturally worthy media outlets this week. - Brent Crampton (brentcrampton.com)

"Shiver Shiver: Soulless Sex Appeal"

If you could take sex, fashion and jazz, mix it up thoroughly and then bake the mix for an hour or so, you would have something tasting much like the new Shiver Shiver album sounds. I liked the disc from the first time I heard it. While the album borrows heavily from the glam-sound (I'm thinking old Bowie fo' sure), the jazz background of Jordan Elsberry and Chase Thornburg give the playing a virtuosic feel, layering some classy, charging jazz chops over some sexy fun song structures. There is certainly nobody else in Omaha doing what Shiver Shiver does and that alone makes the band noteworthy. - The Reader

Bio

The proficient and hooky music of Shiver Shiver has been described as “Intelligent Pop Music,” and “Soulfully Seductive.” Their “big sound from a two-piece” is hard to pigeonhole, and has slices of electronic, soul, glam, you name it thrown into the mix. Original, raw and organic, the two skilled musicians generate a fresh, eclectic energy. Recently, Shiver Shiver was the only band to ever be the focus of ‘loom’, a theme based dance party sponsored by Red Bull. Shiver Shiver was selected to play The Holland Center’s Summer Series, “Wild About Omaha,” and opened for National acts, Paper Route and Audrye Sessions, at The Bourbon Theatre. Two songs, “November Song” and “I’m Leaving You” from “Soulless Sex Appeal,” the duo’s debut release, have hit the homepage on The Sixty One. (http://www.thesixtyone.com) Shiver Shiver is Chase Thornburg and Jordan Elsberry. Chase's approach to the drums is relentless and uniquely instrumental, while Jordan's way with the keys is broad, orchestral and earthy. The duo possesses an uncanny vocal affinity. These elements merge to create a fresh musical identity of tight, thoughtful songwriting that is both catchy and complex.

A short list of influences includes: Beck, Brazilian Girls, Radiohead, The Beatles, David Bowie, Bad Plus, and Sly and the Family Stone.
