Shoaga

BandWorldSinger/Songwriter

Versatile. I listen to pretty much everything and the music reflects that. I love to talk about politics and love and all the things that people are normally afraid to talk about in hopes that someone listening would get a lesson on life, either mine or theirs, and be moved to action as a result.

Biography

THE BEGINNING:
It all started on September 2, 1980 when I was born in the capital of Nigeria. I lived in Nigeria for the first four years of my life. At age 5, I moved to Denver, Colorado. While living in Nigeria and moving to the States, I remember the musical influences of Jimmy Cliff, Fela, and Bob Marley. While adjusting to the American way of life, I found outlets in writing and listening to my parentÂ’s records. My favorites were Tina Turner, the Everly Brothers, popular Reggae & oldies.

INFLUENCES:
My musical influences are Maroon 5, Dave Matthews Band, Jason Mraz, R. Kelly, Ben Harper, U2, Delirious, Killers, Kanye West, Matt Redman, and Jimmy Cliff. I think my diverse taste in
music flows throughout my shows. It kills me to go to a show and know what a band's sound is by the second song. Keeping that in mind, you will hear many musical styles at one of my shows.

EDUCATION:
I attended high school at George Washinton High School where I played basketball. I attended college at Metro State. I earned a degree in Political Science and Legal Studies. While in college, I met and married my wife Jewel at the age of 21. My wife gave me a guitar and lessons as a birthday present. Since then, I have not stopped playing.

HOW IT CAME TO BE:
Now at the tender age of 25, I have been singing and writing my own songs for 4 years. My goal at every show is to have a dynamic style that catches the listener's ear as I hit the first note. I have played locally at Capital Hill People's Fair, Ziggies, Cricket on the Hill, Herman's Hideaway, Larimer Lounge, Trilogy Lounge, Mercury Cafe, and more...

Lyrics

Rain

Written By: Ali Shoaga

Chorus
Rain, rain, fallin on my head, fallin on my head like my world was crashing down X4

Do you know about the tears that I shed, so you know about the nights that I prayed, for you to come like an angel from above with a salve for my blood cause my heart was aching now

Chorus

Yes I remember all the things that I said, yes I remember all the false promises, I didn't do what I said I would do so you let go your hopes and they flew out the window pane

Chorus

Yes I remember all the things that I did, yes I remember but I've changed since then. I'm not the same man that left you all alone when you needed me the most I was too scared to fight for love.

Chorus.

They Come

Written By: Ali Shoaga

They come, they come to take away your life and liberty, name of security they trample on your dignity

they come, they come to do bad things raping and pillaging, village to village them they practice inhumanity

You go, they watch, you come, they watch, your house, they watch, your bed, they watch, they're watching everthing, they watching everything. Everyone scatter, scatter, scatter, scatter, scatter, scatter, scatter, scatter.

They come, they come to slap your face, beat you mercilessly, in police states watch what you say about the government.

They come, they come commit atrocoties in name of peace, in name of freedom in the name of this democracy

You go, they watch, you come, they watch, your house, they watch, your bed, they watch, they watching everthing, they watching everything. Everyone scatter, scatter, scatter, scatter, scatter, scatter, scatter, scatter.

That's all they do, all they do is take, that's all they leave, heartache and pain.
