Bio
Shobha was born on October 17, 1981 in Halifax Nova Scotia. She began her musical endeavors at a young age; under the influence of her older brother, Peter. She started composing and singing her own music at 16 and believes much of her musical creativity was inherited from her father, Stephen Mal, who too has enjoyed writing poetry, directing plays and composing songs in many different languages native to India. Shobha also shares the love of poetry with her mother, who was a teacher in India for many years after receiving her masters in the ancient literary language of Sanskrit.
Shobha eventually found herself among many talented musicians at Prairie Bible College, where she participated in Matt Brouwers Imagerical and Jakes Army of Love. Her influences are many, varying from Hip Hop to Acoustic Rock. The result is music that is moving, full of life, and topped with a little bit of soul. In case you were wondering, Shobha is an East Indian name meaning grace. The beauty of original music and honest lyrics allow Shobha to rise above mediocrity and truly live up to her name.
