"SHOCK & AWE"

Recently I had the pleasure of witnessing one of the premier up and coming rock acts in the metro Detroit area Shock Wave. This modern power trio rocked with an intensity and self-assuredness usually reserved for those twice their age. And, based on the number of Shock Wave shirts there were in the crowd the word apparently is getting out about these prodigious young players. - Detroit Live Magazine June 2010

"SHOCK WAVE Show Review June 2010"

In a number of ways Motor City trio Shock Wave is your prototypical rock & roll act – bare bones, uncompromising, intense and full of energy. There is a self assured balance of strong pop hooks and sophisticated sonics that reveal years of devotion to song craft. But when you consider that their age range is 13 to 15 years old, the overall content and delivery of the set takes on an entirely different and more impressive tenor. These kids have the goods, as originals like “Bullet Train” and the guitar crunchy “Some Things” undeniably displayed.

Each member of the group demonstrates a confidence and panache on his respective instrument that is immediately apparent. Angelo Coppola performs double duty, belting out authoritative vocals accompanied by a hard hitting drum technique that is tempered with subtle accents and finesse.

Dylan Frankel is the drummer’s perfect compliment on bass, thumping out the low end with an elastic style that is intrepid and serpentine. Last but certainly not least, the bassist’s brother David Frankel possesses an innate facility on guitar that is far beyond his years. His tone is huge, which only further highlights the remarkably tasty power chords and choice leads that seem to flow with ease.

The band interacted well in the sense of acknowledging the crowd and playing effectively off one another. There was a palpable enthusiasm at work that emanated from the sizeable audience. Bassist Dylan really seemed to catch that wave and utilized it to his advantage. If there was any concern, it would be that Coppola – albeit a more than competent front person – was understandably landlocked behind a drum kit that included a large tom in front of his head, obscuring his facial expressions and larger than life persona.

Shock Wave is a group that serves up pure unadulterated rock that’s tuneful, easy to grasp and thoroughly entertaining. Once you get passed the novelty of the band being so young yet so polished for their age, it’s easy to get swept away by the sheer professionalism of their stage show and the strength of their songs. These prodigious kids have a fully realized and solid sound. If they stay on the creative track they’ve laid out for themselves, the sky’s the limit.

"You must see this band!"

You need to see this band, especially if you are a musician or in the music industry. I have been booking them shows recently and the first time I saw them play I was totally blown away.
