Bio

Rapper, singer, songwriter Shon Skonie hails from North Memphis, Tennessee.  With strong influences from R&B legends like Sam Cooke, Willie Hutch, Bobby Womack, Johnny Taylor, and of course a host of 90's sensations such as Jodeci, Joe, Guy, and others Shon has a very rich and unique singing voice. His rapping style is also just as unique and unmatched sounding like not many artists in the mainstream giving him a strong star quality.  At birth he underwent the procedure known as a colostomy where he lost life and regained consciousness twice,  "That's why I call him my miracle baby,  I gave his life to God that night", says his mother. His musical talents began at the age of 3 when he started to sing in his grandmothers church choir. "Growing up in the church really had an impact on my voice, giving me that southern gospel feel", he later recalls.  He later went on to imply that he couldn't picture his life going anywhere other than the music route.  Around the age of 8 Shon began writing poetry and had a religious based poem published entitled "His Love" a year later.  Years later the young artist began transforming his poems into rap verses. "I wrote my first verse in 7th grade and I didn't know what to think about it until I recited it in the cafeteria at school. Everyone went crazy and was surprised at my rapping ability. That was the beginning of my journey to success", says Shon. He went on to writing more his own songs at age 15, taking his artistry to another level. During the next 4 years he was on and off the music scene, but began to really take his passion serious upon the birth of his now 2 year old twins named Zion (daughter) and Darris Jr.  "I just want to give them the life and opportunities I never had", says Shon. Around this time the no genre artist began working on his first project entitled Drillmatic, inspired by the album of legendary recording artist Nas. "I had to give the people what they deserve and that's amazing music, something they can feel and relate to.....  It's Drill Life! "
