"Girls Rock & Girls Rule Tour 2008"

We've heard a lot of metaphors about female independence lately—80 million cracks in the glass ceiling, something about a pit bull with lipstick—and it's within this climate that the New York-based Girls Rock & Girls Rule Tour stopped at 3rd and Lindsley. Consisting of five female-fronted bands plus a local band or two at every stop.

"Two local bands were chosen to share the bill, the first being ShotgunDiary, whose loud/soft Evanescence-styled modern rock would probably sound right at home on not just 102.9 The Buzz (Nashville's Rock Station), but any of the many The Buzzes found throughout the country."

"ShotgunDiary-Hard Rock Cafe-March 5, 2010"

Now ShotgunDiary, I had seen this band before, and wow have they come a long way. With the addition of Kenny Knight on guitar, they were slamming good!! Anna, lead vox, Kenny and Brett on guitars, Johnny on bass, and John on the drums, what a great band! They were right at home on the stage. Anna even did a take on Zombie, I loved it, got it on video too. This band is killer. They have it all, and Kenny, you really shine in this band, like the change. Anna’s vocals were sweet and pure, Brett is also a great guitarist, love Johnny on that bass, awesome, and another drop us to the first floor drummer named John too, great set guys and Ms. Anna, will be looking to catch you guys again soon!

"ShotgunDiary Concert Review 2/5/10"

This was the first time that I've ever seen this band, ShotgunDiary. Wasn't quite sure what to expect. I was familiar with the abilities of one of the guitar players, Kenny Knight, who had invited me to Friday night's show at the Hard Rock Cafe in Nashville. I knew that Kenny only associated with top acts, so the one thing I did know Friday night, was that this show was going to rock & roll!

ShotgunDiary's ten song set kicked off with a tune titled "Matter Of Time" which opens with both guitar players, Brett Moore and Kenny Knight, ripping into two distinctly different riffs that complemented each other nicely. The audience found out on the first number that this band had two guitar players of equal strength as Knight and Moore swapped guitar licks.

This band was one of the first that I have seen with a female singer in all my years of concert going. The dynamic of having someone like Anna Moore on vocals adds a unique dimensional flavor to this ShotgunDiary. Having Anna as the centerpiece of the band, allowed for such unique additions as a cover of the Cranberries "Zombie" which was a highlight for me.

Bringing up the bottom end of this quintet was John Button on drums and Johnny Button on bass. They were solid and heavy hitting on songs like "Cocaine Smile" and "Stranger Than Fiction". I believe the latter was a new song.

My two favorite tracks of the night were "Denial" and "Bad Karma". "Denial" had the best vocal emotion of the night! There was a genuine sadness in Anna's singing that made me want to know what inspired this great song. "Bad Karma" reminded me of Great White guitars and Alannah Myles vocals. This blues-rock romp also strongly showcased the Bu t tons ability to seal the deal on a fine groove.

Finally, the show ended with a pumped-up audience helping out on ShotgunDiary's cover medley of Motorhead's "Ace Of Spades" and Black Sabbath's "Paranoid". I really enjoyed Anna's take on these two songs.

Kenny Knight tells me it's all ShotgunDiary in 2010, so if you get a chance, check these guys (and gal) out!

Bio

“It is what it is.” Five words that describe the new (r)evolution that is ShotgunDiary. Formed in 2006 by Brett Moore and John Button, the Nashville band has set out on a musical offensive to give the local rock scene a much-needed facelift. A far cry from your typical blueprint band that sticks to the same tedious songwriting formula, ShotgunDiary incorporates many influences from Rock, Metal, Grunge, and Punk to deliver songs of power and seduction while not falling victim to any cliché, gimmick, or flavor of the day. They write from the heart, soul, and life experiences. The music is written to be emotionally relevant to anyone that listens.

At the forefront of the band, Anna Moore lays down a vocal landscape that ranges from soulful to blistering in the blink of an eye. Anna’s captivating vocals are the center of attraction for ShotgunDiary always supported and complimented by the fiery hard driving band. Never letting up on the throttle, each song is injected into your ear with unbridled passion. No two songs sound the same and each song will stand the test of time on its own merit.

Driven by a solid, heavy-hitting backline, the band includes Kenny Knight (lead & rhythm guitar, background vocals), Johnny Button (bass), Brett Moore (lead & rhythm guitar, background vocals) and John Button, Jr. (drums). Each member brings a unique style to the songwriting and plays a vital role in how the music is created and delivered.

ShotgunDiary has played most of Nashville’s premier concert clubs, as well as many in surrounding cities and states; even traveling to the West Coast to rock the Whisky A Go-Go in Hollywood, CA and clubs in Las Vegas.

With a new CD being recorded at the infamous Benchmark Studios in Nashville, and a North-Eastern U.S. tour scheduled for fall, SD will soon release their brand of music on the masses. The gears are in motion and won’t be stopping anytime soon.

Prepare yourself for what’s to come. This is ShotgunDiary.
