"Neck Deep Media Album Reviews of Shotgun No Blitz"

Artist: Shotgun No Blitz

Album: Over It

Label: Painted Ox Records

Release Date: 12 March 2011

Shotgun No Blitz’s album Over It drew me in right off the bat. The stressed vocals and nifty guitar riffs remind me of Handguns with splashy twist. After listening to this album once it implanted itself into my brain, which lead to many subsequent listening sessions where I became more and more addicted.

Unlike most albums the more I listen to Over It the more it grows on me and leaves me craving more. The lyrics in this album are very straightforward and speak from the heart; they really tell it like it is. After adding in the melodic guitar and bass with the thumping drums Shotgun No Blitz has an illustrious record on their hands.

The second song “Mouthful” captivates everything I love about Shotgun No Blitz. The lyrics are very relatable, so much so that it felt like they were peering into my soul. The vocals are spot on and fit in perfectly with the guitars sensual melody. While listening to “Mouthful” I find myself loosing control and just belting out the lyrics at the top of my lungs.

Overall a sensational release by Shotgun No Blitz. You will want Over It to serenade your eardrums over and over and over again. They have crafted a perfect journey from song to song, getting you pumped up with “Your Not as Cool as You Think” and “Mouthful” then bringing you down slowly with “Objects in Mirror are Closer than they Appear”. This album is truly a diamond in the rough and will blow your mind, but don’t take my word for it, just go have a listen and realize it for yourself. - Frank Monzo, Neck Deep Media

"Shotgun No Blitz Call the Plays on "Over It""

Pennsylvania punk band, Shotgun No Blitz released a new EP last year entitled “Over It” which is beginning to get attention in the Northeast. The band comes out blazing with a punk style similar to Face To Face on the album opener “You’re Not As Cool As You Think.” The energy continues with “Mouthful” and “We’re Swimming at the Bottom of the Sea (Drowing).” They bring a more heavy metal approach to “There’s Nothing More To You” before finishing with their fan-favorite, 2010 song “Objects in Mirror are Closer Than They Appear.” The song also shows the band expanding on their punk-rock roots.

Shotgun No Blitz just hit the studio to record their follow-up album. They also have a couple of shows lined-up in Pennsylvania area. For more information, check out the band’s facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/shotgunnoblitz. - JP's Music Blog

"Shotgun No Blitz new EP "Over It""

Heck yeah get pumped!!! Shotgun No Blitz is a pop-punk band from Lebanon, PA that is bound to get your head bobbing. Their new EP “Over It” is avaible on bandcamp at any cost, free if you want, but come on people I suggest you support the band and at least cough up a buck or two. The EP is a compilation of catchy rythums and vocal melodies that’s pleasing to the ears and comforting to the soul. The EP starts off with a modern sound that’s close to bands like Such Gold and Man Overboard but with a subtle feeling of older pop-punk legends New Found Glory and early Blink 182. The third track titled “We’re Swimming at the Bottom of the Sea (Drowning)” which is an absolutely awesome song name mind you, is a fresh change up at exactly the right time in the EP. In fact the last three songs on the EP remind me of early Hawthorne Heights, Brand New, From First to Last and punk/emo albums from the mid-2000’s but done in a fresh modern way. Shotgun No Blitz have done a great job of taking a lot of different punk/emo influences and blending them into a modern pop-punk EP that sounds great! Not to mention that the vocals are pitch perfect and the instrumentation shows that even though they are classified as pop-punk these dudes can really play. The core of their sound may be pop-punk, but I think Shotgun No Blitz’s new release shows alot of originality and they have alot to offer as a band. "Album Review: Shotgun No Blitz - Over It"

Any record that opens with the line "I’d call you a slut, but you’d like it too much" has my attention straight away. Lyrically Pennsylvania foursome Shoutgun No Blitz’s EP ‘Over It’ is full of teenage, break up angst that sits well against the backdrop of sing along refrains and choppy guitar riffs.

Hands down, the strongest song on this five track free EP ‘Mouthful’; It doesn’t mess around, it’s punchy and it’s catchy. Although, I did spend half of my time working out if I like it because it’s a decent song in itself of whether it’s just because it reminds me of some of my favourite bands - not necessarily a bad thing. It’s compact pop-punk reminiscent of the likes of The Movielife and The Benjamins.

The influence of early Saves The Day is unavoidable. Back up ‘Over It’ and ‘Through Being Cool’; Saves The Day’s classic second album, and the similarities are unmissable. This has both it’s benefits and handicaps: great job on recreating a much loved record, however Shotgun No Blitz has run the risk of simply recreating something already familiar. It’s early days for the band who have only really come into fruition less than a year ago and are yet to strike a balance between their influences and establishing their own sound.

This is definitely one for fans of early Drive-Thru Records bands, Shotgun No Blitz are making a decent start into their career and with a bit more time they will no doubt grown into their own sound... All in all not a bad way to spend fifteen minutes of your day checking out their EP.

3.5/5

"Wicked Music Wednesday"

Shotgun No Blitz is a four piece from Lebanon PA lets just say they are a pop-punk cause honestly thats the most general way of looking at this band. Taking cues from everyone like Saves the Day to more contemporary bands such as Transit and Man Overboard their sound is really hard to pin down to any one artist. I will say that this band is by no means your carbon copy pop-punk band, if you listen to their EP Over It, available right now through bandcamp you can hear all the bands you heard on the 2001-05 warped tours rolled into a neat little package. When it comes to live shows this band does not pull its punches delivering every line about shitty exes and people they hate while also dishing out some positivity every once and while. If you aren’t screaming back in their faces at the end of their set you can’t call yourself a fan of music (or you’re not a kid with too many problems). This band will definitely be a mover in the music scene soon. - Jake Overhault, LUMA

"Unsigned band of the week: Shotgun No Blitz"

I actually had the pleasure to meet these guys back in April when I arranged a Battle of the Bands at my college. They were one of the bands I found to play, and actually ended up being the winners. These 4 guys had so much energy while playing; more then a lot of bigger band I have seen. When I didn’t think it could get any better, it did, and they completely won me over with their Taking Back Sunday cover of ‘A Decade Under the Influence’. After seeing them I immediately went online to get their music, and I was just as impressed with their music the second time around. No exaggeration, I think I only listened to those 5 songs that week. The ending track, ‘Objects in Mirror are Closer than they Appear’, is easily my favorite with the line “we all know that growing is hard, that’s what they say” and the end of the song catchy ba ba da ba ba’s. I mean everything about the song is great though! These four guys obviously love what they do, play music that means something to them, and are great at what they do. This is something that bands anymore really have lost.. writing meaningful music. Checkout their music here: http://shotgunnoblitz.bandcamp.com/album/over-it. Also, if you’re in the Lancaster area on Thursday, August 25 check them out at The Stahr playing with The Dangerous Summer and I Call Fives. Hopefully I’ll be there! - Julie Calvanese
