His last show in his home town of Columbus Ohio drew a crowd of 1,000 teenagers packed in a skating ring to see this kid. Rashad �Shotty� Mayes has a very unique story. With a near death experience at birth, the doctors were ready to label him with Sudden Infant Death Syndrome, but God had other planes. His father is from Water House Kingston, Jamaica where he had numerous run-ins with the law. Unfortunately, he is now serving a life time sentence in an Ohio correctional facility. Shotty was raised by his mother with three other children to care for on the south side of Columbus. Shotty�s mother introduced him to Hip Hop at a very young age. According to Shotty, he would fall asleep listening to �Dear Mama� and �If I ruled the world� by Nas. By the age of three he knew the Tupac classic by heart. When Shotty was just eight years of age he asked if he could go to the studio with his older cousin, Aonist Coles. A defining moment in Shotty�s life would happen that day as he witnessed a group of emcees having a freestyle session. Shotty made a spontaneous decision to join the session and started rhyming. Everyone was amazed at young Shotty�s word play and rhyme schemes. Aonist had quickly saw his potential and he has been writing and recording rap songs ever since.
Shotty is one of the most determined young people you will ever meet, with a wealth of wisdom beyond his years. He is a hard worker and is committed to his career. He has taken acting classes to help with his presence in front of the camera, vocal training to help him properly use his diaphragm, and physical training with celebrity trainer Jody �The Super Trainer� Smith in Atlanta Georgia to help build his stamina. He has also done media training with celebrity publicist Darnell Clark of �Image Makers Media� and CEO of Lucid magazine with the help of Aquarius Williams of �Q-talk Live�. To insure he gets the hottest tracks, Shotty has worked with producers such as industry veteran Chris Powell, who has produced records for great legends such as Stevie Wonder, Beyonce, and Fatty Coo. Shotty has also had the privilege of working with a legend in the making by the name of Nitti. Other producers on his resume include K-FAM, M16, and Jay.R (Duffle Bag Boy� by Playas Circle).
Shotty has opened for major recording artists such as Lil Will (�My Dougie�) and The G-Spot Boyz, (�Stanky Legg�). He has also had the esteemed pleasure to open for Gorilla Zoe (�Lost�), and the popular 70�s group �Slave�(�Slide�). Shotty�s music crosses all generational lines and genres. He frequently performs at �unplugged� shows with The Rick James Stone City Band where they play his music live. Shotty has a cross cultural appeal and a very solid fan base that is rapidly increasing with his popularity.
