You may have heard the phrase show and prove various times, you may have even used the phrase yourself in a sentence, but show and prove is no longer just a simple phrase, it is now a group. The group formed 2 years ago under the management of David Hill and Daniel Griffin of I-90 entertainment. Daniel Griffin, who is known as Dantanna is the labels head producer who oversees most of Show and Proves current projects. Dantanna has also done several other projects for many other artists such as E40, 2Short, Do or Die, Soldiers at war, and several other artists also wining the producer of the year award in 2002.
The group Show and Prove consist of 2 members, Lockness and TopNotch. Although the group’s formation has not been that long, both artists have been crafting their art in the hip hop game for years. Lockness resides from the south side of Chicago and TopNotch lives on the west side. Lockness, who is now 22, has been emceeing for over 10 years. He was inspired by his older sister who also participated in the hip hop culture while he was a kid.
Lockness was inspired by several artists such as Gangstarr, Wu Tang Clan, the Fugees and others. TopNotch, who is 24, has been emceeing for 9 years. As an up and coming emcee TopNotch was also inspired by artists such as Chicago own Juice, Common Sense and Royce the 5’9. Both artists decided to join forces during their college careers after being inducted into the organization of Kappa Alpha Psi.
Since the formation they have moved on to make quality records and perform at various shows, recently winning the underground hype competition sponsored by CTO Entertainment. Since these accomplishments the two are planning to perform at several other venues and upcoming events in order to get their music heard to the public. Show and Proves basic goal and mission is to tap into the inner lives of today’s youth and society throughout their music. Today’s hip hop game is in dying need of something different, and Show and Prove is here in order to carry that mission out.
