Bio

Born and bred in Lefrak City Queens, NY, "Shugaree was dancing before she could walk...." says her moms. Music was in her. It was meant for her to be a performer. An entertainer. From a child, if you would've asked her what she wanted to be when she grew up, her answer was always consistent, A SUPERSTAR. Since early childhood days, a lot has happened to Shugaree. She lost her father due to an accident while in elementary school. Her dad called her "Princess" and "...#1" (she's the baby of 5 children). Perhaps he knew what was to come. During HS, she did a 1 song rap demo titled "Skillz for Hire" and was offered to do a compilation album. After HS, she did college for a little bit, but wanted to live life. Had a child, got married and had another child. In that order. Life happened. But then it was time. When the itch got so she couldn't shake it anymore, she started hitting the grind. First, Shugaree started recording in a home studio in DC in February '05. That prepared her to sing the intro and hook for a local DC rapper. Then, a DC recording studio called on Shugaree to record a song for a mixtape. After the mixtape, Shugaree completed her debut promotional cd "LIFE HAPPENS." Why this title? Ask Shugaree, and she'll tell you, "...because that's what happened.....Life." She also had her debut performance at Teabag Open Mic in Chinatown, NYC on 09/09/05. That was love from a primarily Asian audience. Then in Lanham, MD on 09/14/05 she had a performance at the Safari Steakhouse and Restaurant at another open mic. She did two songs from the album and held it down. The Metro DC area are HUGE Go-Go fans. And honestly, Shugaree held it down. NY accent and all. But it was definitely love. "The Metro DC showed me love," says Shugaree. In August of '05 she's had her first telephoned radio interview w/ DJ EZ Mike and has received airplay on the same station. If you were to ask Shugaree what she's doing now, "Trying to perform at least once a week to continue to get my name out there, and continue to develop my stage performance. If anyone told you there stage performance couldn't be enhanced, they're lying. There's always room for improvement. So, look out for me, I may be coming to an Open Mic near you.........."
