Shutups
Formed after a near death experience, Shutups play because nothing else matters. Their brand of big guitar punk is urgent and primal, built on beat to shit drum explosions drenched in squealing feedback. Based in Oakland, Hadley Davis (vocals, guitar) and Mia Wood (drums) focus on creating songs that are meant for live performance. Underneath the carnage, Shutups write smart pop songs littered with radio-friendly hooks. EP2’s “Big Spin” is the perfect fit for an early 2000’s lo-fi mall-punk soundtrack, while more recent tracks like “Broken Bone” focus on quick changes and atypical structure.
Shutups recently released their fourth EP via Dumptruck Press. The band promoted the EP with a west coast summer tour, and a live performance on KALX.
Shutups have finished recording their full length with producer Cody Votolato, and are currently shopping it to labels. It is expected early 2019.
