Bio

Shy and the Fight are a co-operative of six twenty something musicians from North Wales, Chester, and the Wirral. Formed in 2010, you'll be hard pushed to find out how it all came together, they genuinely can’t remember, it was so organic.

No matter, together they are Thomas Hyndman, Christopher Done, Carrie Elizabeth Anderson, Mike Deponeo, Jackson Almond, and Tom Wootton.

All had previously been in other bands. All knew of each other superficially. All were playing music vastly different to what Shy and the Fight has become. But they believe they have found the right outlet for what is now their common purpose in making music with their friends.
And what of their music? Their overall set up consists of a banjo, a violin, a glockenspiel, two acoustic guitars, a bass, a melodica 9 (a blowy handheld keyboard thing) , drums, lap steel, five singing voices, 12 hands that clap, and glitchy electronics. Despite the sheer number of different elements Shy and the Fight still manage to capture a sound that could warm the cockles of the fiercest creature before grabbing it by the hand and forcing it to dance. Well that’s what they say. Think the Beach Boys meets Arcade Fire? Maybe!
Folk Rock? Acoustic Folk? Folk'n'Roll. Pop? Well, it's not for us to decide here exactly what Shy and the Fight sound like. Their music speaks for itself in being catchy, melodious, big, quiet, and lyrically thoughtful. What is unusual though so early in a band’s career, is that they have a knack of knocking out tunes that you really think you’ve heard before (but haven’t until now).
Shy and the Fight have released a 4 track EP, available at gigs, and digitally on iTunes and Amazon. The EP is also available on Spotify. 'How to Stop an Imploding Man' is a live favourite at Shy and the Fight's gigs, but to be perfectly honest, all their songs are live favorites at gigs. STOP PRESS – How to Stop An Imploding Man is currently the soundtrack to JACK WILLS CLOTHING COMPANY’S EASTER 2011 PROMO FILM – Check out www.jackwills.com

Shy and the Fight are currently being championed by BBC Radio Wales' Adam Walton, who caught them at their local haunt of Telford's Warehouse in Chester, where they have become a firm live favourite, to the point of almost being the resident house band. They played at the Stop making Sense Music festival in Croatia in 2010, and headlined the Nov 2010 unsigned Night at Manchester's famous Academy venue.

In January 2011, they recorded a session for Adam Walton’s BBC Radio Wales show, which was broadcast to great acclaim in February 2011.
Shy and the Fight are ripe and ready.
