Bio

Shy Panther recreate live, the slowed down, moody grooves of hip hop, coupled with striking vocals and a tendency to turn driving beats into atmospheric-galaxy-jam-songs. Having only recently staggered out of their mother's womb, the young band is quickly learning how to waltz confidently through the musical terrain of the jungle.

Despite the animal only taking its full shape in 2011, this new, fresh band have already left their footprints on some of Perth's and Fremantle's most notorious stages - Amplifier, The Bakery, The Bird, Mojo's, Norfolk and the Fly Trap - and recently shook thinks up in the 'Path to Laneway' competition, narrowly missing out on bringing home the bacon.

With a sound more distinct than a boy crying, "wolf!", many people have struggled to pigeonhole this band's genre of music. Perhaps if Radiohead, Portishead, Prince and DJ Shadow were forced into a blender, the resulting juice would taste something like 'Shy Panther' - sweet, with plenty of pulp.

With a brand new EP in the final cycle of the wash, set for release in June, and a debut Video Clip in the oven - it seems likely that a productive 2012 is on the cards for this Trip-Hop hybrid.

"Next, Shy Panther - a mellow engagement with Psy-funk reminiscent of The Stepkids, not far away from Ariel Pink, stacking soothing faux-Wurlitzer keyboards on top of plodding bass riffs. Leadman Daniel Fragomeni was the band's visible centre of orbit, and his stellar vocals set Shy Panther beyond almost all competition." (Drum Media.)

"...Shy Panther, a band who play a hybrid of trip hop and psychedelia... there’s some serious songwriting ability and the lead singer’s voice is nothing short of extraordinary, reminiscent of Thom Yorke." (X-Press Magazine.)

"Lyrics that are at once candid and poetic, and a sound that builds like-how layers of toffee build on a toffee apple, Ladies and Gentlemen, Boys and Girls... SHY PANTHER" (Mike O'Hanlon, the Bird.)
