"who are shy and the fight"

Nu-rave, overrated Dubstep and auto tuning on god knows how many songs in an attempt to make them bearable. Let’s face it; our ears have been forced to deal with a good old mish-mash of nonsense over the past couple of years and frankly, I’m getting sick to bloody death of it. What ever happened to good old-fashioned MUSIC? That’s right, I’m talking about going back to basics: instruments, a damn good set of vocals and not a whole lot more. ‘Real music’ is a genre that is slowly dying out, but Shy and the Fight is a band trying their best to keep it alive.

.. ..

The 6-piece are all from the Wirral/Chester/North Wales regions and consist of 5 guys and 1 little lady. Thomas Hyndman, Chris Done, Michael Deponeo, Tom Wootton, Jackson Almond and Carrie Anderson are not only long time friends, but have all been involved in various solo/group projects before the birth of Shy and the Fight. This is why the band has such a unique yet reassuringly comfortable sound; each band member brings their own individual style and fuses it to create something beautiful. Of course, to witness this, all you have to do is listen.

.. ..

Their first single, ‘How to stop an imploding man’ is a feel-good song that argues against anyone who thinks that folk can’t be contemporary. However, I’m not going to sit here and belittle the band by suggesting they can only produce these feel-good party tunes. Their newly released EP gives you a taster of the various elements Shy and the Fight actually have, but I think we will have to eagerly await the album to get a real idea of what this band is all about.

.. ..

If you can’t wait that long, then I’d strongly recommend going to a live show. Not only do Shy and the Fight sound amazing, they are natural born performers and all know how to give their fans a cracking good time.

Shy and the Fight are a collective of six musicians from around the Wirral, Chester and North Wales areas who have a lot to give and after countless years of trying now believe they've found the right outlet.

Each of the group's five men and one lady; Thomas Hyndman, Chris Done, Carrie Anderson, Tom Wootton, Michael Deponeo and Jackson Almond, started out performing either solo or in different bands of completely different genres, before deciding to fire all their talents at one other and see what happened. They now blend live instruments and their love for the organic with the inescapable sound of electronics.

They will possibly tell you that there has never been a band so happy to be playing music together. Their overall set up consists of a banjo, a violin, a glockenspiel, an acoustic guitar, a gretch guitar, a bass, a melodica, a drum set, lap steel, five singing voices 12 hands that clap and glitchy yet soothing electronics. Despite the sheer number of different elements shy and the fight still manage to capture a sound that could warm the cockles of the fiercest creature before grabbing it by the hand and forcing it to dance
