Brooklyn’s SIANI, at the forefront of a generation of artists confronting stagnant and crippling trends, uses his evolving understanding of the culture, through his music, to inspire.
He collaborated with numerous artists in the bustling New York underground scene, dropping singles, mixed joints, the occasional remix, and experimenting with a variety of styles before coming into his own. In such a competitive environment, where opportunity is a matter of being at the right place and time, SIANI, who represents the Flatbush area of Brooklyn, a neighborhood dominated by Caribbean descendants, feels the content of his music aligns with traditional Brooklyn narratives and is diverse, insightful, and postmodern in nature, thereby giving it an edge.
Identifying plagiarism as the underlying cause of music’s illness of late, SIANI’s main focus is substance-based creativity by delivering provocative analyses of the urban state of mind—be that first-hand accounts or otherwise.
As he straightforwardly puts it, “art, inspiration, originality, truth — not forced, from the heart — the essence. That’s where I am right now. That’s my reality.”
